From King to Vagabond | A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

Source
A long, long time ago, in a very, very distant kingdom, there lived a king who wished to be immortal to rule forever, so he asked a powerful sorcerer to grant him that wish. Ancient magic caused the king to stop aging.
At first, the kingdom flourished under his endless reign. The harvests were abundant, and the people lived in peace and prosperity. But the years turned into centuries, and the world changed radically beyond his understanding. Societies evolved, and the voices of his people began to insult the monarchy.
The king, confused by these social changes, refused to acknowledge the need to adapt. With no children or heirs to care for his legacy, and clinging to a crown that no longer inspired respect, he lost power until he was left with nothing. Over time, authorities and titles were taken from him one by one, and soon he found himself alone, with no kingdom to rule.
Today, that immortal king wanders like a mere beggar, without wealth or friends, realizing too late that eternity is an unbearable burden, even for the most powerful of men.
