While this isn't the first time I've seen a Slice of Life anime, I must admit that it's the first time I've seen an anime of this style. One of the advantages of this quiet genre is the possibility of encountering a wide variety of stories in the world of anime. From dragons becoming maids to young people working as full-time torturers. In Slice of Life, you won't come across generic anime as is common in other genres such as action, fantasy, or romance. While most Slice of Life anime have a simple plot to follow, the variety in terms of characters and stories is too wide.

This time, Ruri Rocks is about girls researching and mining stones and all kinds of minerals. Yes, it's not a plot that will hook many people when they see it, but for some reason it ended up working, especially with this animated adaptation. Be that as it may, the reason I ended up watching this anime, apart from wanting to expand my quarterly anime catalog a bit, is solely because of its audiovisual aspect. But I'll talk more about that later. For now, I'd like to focus your attention on a curious detail about this animated series that may have been the main reason for its success.

Si bien no es la primera vez que veo un anime Slice of Life, debo admitir que es la primera vez que veo un anime de este estilo. Una de las ventajas que tiene este tranquilo género es la posibilidad de encontrarse con una muy buena variedad de historias en el mundo del anime. Desde dragonas convirtiéndose en sirvientas hasta jóvenes trabajando de torturadores a tiempo completo. En el Slice of Life no te vas a topar con animes genéricos como es común hacerlo en otros géneros como la acción, la fantasía o el romance. Si bien la mayoría de animes Slice of Life poseen una trama sencilla de seguir, la variedad en cuanto a sus personajes e historias es demasiado amplia.

En esta ocasión, Ruri Rocks trata de chicas investigando y picando piedras y todo tipo de minerales. Si, no es una trama que llegue a enganchar a mucha gente al verla, pero por alguna u otra razón terminó funcionando y más con esta adaptación animada. Sea como sea, la razón por la que llegué a ver este anime, aparte de querer expandir un poco la variedad mi catálogo de animes trimestrales, es únicamente por su apartado audiovisual. Pero ya les hablaré de eso mejor más adelante, por el momento quisiera mejor centrar su atención en un curioso detalle que posee esta serie animada que posiblemente haya sido la razón principal del éxito que obtuvo.

And yes, apart from its animation quality, another of the main reasons why many people who didn't even know about mineralogy watched this anime is because of its fanservice. No, despite its appearance, it is not an "Ecchi" anime, another japanese term used to refer to works (manga or anime) with a certain humor and explicit or sexy scenes, but which do not end up being entirely sexual (or Hentai). Here, they only use fanservice as a small visual resource to attract the attention of a certain type of audience so that they stay and watch the anime until the end. Although they don't abuse fanservice as much as many other anime do, the particular way they do it attracts a lot of attention.

This, along with the fact that we only see girls throughout the anime, is the typical cheap hook that these types of anime with uninteresting plots use to keep people watching. Despite my opinions about the use and abuse of fanservice in action, fantasy, and romance works, on this occasion, I agree with its use due to the uninteresting plot and story. Even so, it doesn't take away from the fact that Studio Bind has done a pretty good job with the audiovisual aspect, making each episode a spectacle of colors, art styles, lights, and settings that are fascinating. But beyond that, there isn't much else I can say about this anime.

Y si, aparte de su calidad de animación, otra de las razones principales del por qué mucha gente que ni siquiera conocía sobre la mineralogía se vió este anime es por su fanservice. No, a pesar de su apariencia, no es un anime “Ecchi”, otra definición japonesa a la que la gente se refiere a las obras (mangas o animes) con cierto humor y escenas explícitas o calientes, pero que no terminan del todo en lo sexual (o Hentai). Aquí solo utilizan únicamente el fanservice como un pequeño recurso visual para llamar la atención de cierto tipo de público y así se queden a ver el anime hasta el final. Si bien no abusan mucho del fanservice como ocurre con muchos otros animes, la manera tan particular de hacerlo llama mucho la atención.

Esto, junto con el hecho de que solo veremos a chicas en todo el anime, es ese típico enganche barato que utilizan este tipo de animes con tramas poco interesantes para que la gente se quede a verla. A pesar de tener mis opiniones acerca del uso y abuso del fanservice en obras de acción, fantasía y romance; en esta ocasión le doy cierta razón a utilizarlo debido a su trama e historia poco interesantes. Aún así, no quita el hecho de que Studio Bind se haya lucido bastante bien en su aspecto audiovisual, haciendo de cada capítulo un espectáculo de colores, estilo de artes, luces y escenarios que causan fascinación. Pero más allá de esto, no hay mucho más que pueda llegar a opinar acerca de este anime.

Starting with the characters, little Ruri is the protagonist with her fascination for jewels and minerals, and her encounter with Nagi Arato triggers a series of adventures, investigations, and discoveries of rare and common minerals. That's what her story is about, nothing more, so don't expect anything beyond waifus chipping away or searching for stones in mountains and caves. The interesting thing about all this is the way in which they introduce and explain the subject of mineralogy in a simple yet detailed way. The anime can even be found under the title "Introduction to Mineralogy", to give you an idea.

This is interesting simply because they use such a common story about girls looking for jewels to teach us everything about mineralogy. From types of minerals and rocks to places and methods for searching for and finding deposits of rare minerals. Despite its appearance and all, anyone with even a passing interest can learn a lot about this subject just by watching this anime. And it's no surprise that this is the case, since the creator himself also seems to be a student of mineralogy. On the other hand, there isn't much to say about the characters themselves, since we don't see much development of them either.

Empezando por los personajes, siendo la pequeña Ruri la protagonista con su fascinación por las joyas y los minerales y su encuentro con Nagi Arato el detonante de una serie de aventuras, investigaciones y descubrimientos de minerales raros y comunes. De esto es lo que trata su historia, nada más, así que no esperes algo más allá de waifus picando o buscando piedras en montañas y cuevas. Lo interesante de todo esto sería la forma en la que nos introducen y explican de forma sencilla y a la vez detalla el tema de la mineralogía. Incluso el anime también se puede encontrar con el título de “Introducción a la Mineralogía”, como para que tengas una idea.

Esto es interesante por el mero hecho de que utilicen una historia tan común sobre chicas buscando joyas para enseñarnos sobre todo lo relacionado a la mineralogía. Desde tipos de minerales y rocas hasta lugares y métodos para buscar y encontrar yacimientos de minerales poco comunes. A pesar de su apariencia y todo, cualquiera con un mínimo de interés puede llegar a aprender mucho sobre este tema viendo este anime nomás. Y no es una sorpresa que esto suceda ya que el mismo creador parece también ser un estudiante de mineralogía. Por otro lado, no hay mucho que se pueda hablar de los personajes como tal debido a que no vemos mucho desarrollo que digamos tampoco.

Last but not least, now it's time to talk about the audiovisual aspect of Ruri Rocks. With Studio Bind in charge of this animated adaptation, it's to be expected that it would be of such high quality. They've already proven themselves with Mushoku Tensei and Onimai, anime series that became very famous for their high level of audiovisual production. Another thing these works have in common is fanservice, which doesn't surprise me, to be honest. Apart from this, the art style, character designs, varied and bright color palettes, and visual effects are excellent.

Especially when showing us rural or mountainous views or locations, the attention to detail is striking. Since it's about searching for gems and minerals, it's clear that the details focus more on each rock or mineral they find. There's also the fluidity of the animation, which really stands out and is almost absurd to see in an anime like this. Yes, an anime about waifus with gems has much better animation than the third season of One Punch Man. It's incredible. Let's not forget the sound effects and soundtrack of this anime. It's fascinating, especially when it comes to heightening the emotion of certain scenes. Anyway, here's a calm, educational, and different anime.

Personally, I give it a rating of 8/10 in terms of the Slice of Life genre.

Por último, pero no menos importante, ahora sí nos toca hablar sobre el apartado audiovisual que tiene Ruri Rocks. Siendo Studio Bind el que estuvo a cargo de esta adaptación animada es de esperarse que posea un nivel tan alto de calidad. Ya lo han demostrado antes con Mushoku Tendría o con Onimai, animes que llegaron a ser muy famosos por su alto nivel de producción audiovisual. Aunque otra cosa que comparten estas obras es el fanservice, cosa que no me sorprende, la verdad. Aparte de esto, el estilo de arte, los diseños de los personajes, las paletas de colores variados y brillantes y los efectos visuales son de lo más excelentes.

Sobre todo al momento de mostrarnos vistas o lugares rurales o montañosos es llamativo la dedicación que tienen con los detalles. Al tratarse de la búsqueda de joyas y minerales, es evidente que los detalles llegan a centrarse más en cada roca o mineral que consiguen. También está la fluidez de su animación, lo cual resalta bastante y es hasta absurdo verlo en un anime como este. Si, un anime de waifus con joyas tiene muchísima mejor animación que la tercera temporada de One Punch Man, es increíble. Tampoco hay que olvidarnos de los efectos de sonido y la banda sonora que tiene este anime. Es fascinante, sobre todo al momento de elevar la emoción de ciertas escenas. En fin, aquí les dejo un anime tranquilo, educativo y diferente.

Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 8/10 en lo que respecta al género Slice of Life.
