Hello, anime fans. Today I’m bringing you an Isekai anime that—much to the potential dismay of many of you reading this—is as generic as you can imagine. But despite that, it has everything it takes to be a fantastic and entertaining show for those who don’t mind watching something generic every now and then. Based on the light novel series of the same name written by Matsuri Akai and illustrated by Tōzai, “My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero's” is an anime adaptation produced by TMS Entertainment and animated by Sunrise. Hola, fanáticos del anime. Hoy les traigo un anime Isekai más que, para el potencial desagrado de muchos de los que me lean, es tan genérico como lo que se pueden imaginar. Pero a pesar de eso, tiene todo lo necesario para ser una obra fantástica y entretenida para los que no les importa ver algo genérico de vez en cuando. Plot
The anime begins by introducing us to a group of high school students who, out of nowhere, are all transported to a medieval fantasy world where they are welcomed by the royal court of the Kingdom of Retice. After welcoming the disoriented students, the King of Retice explains that they have been summoned to help “save the world” from the clutches of the evil Demon King who has been wreaking havoc in this world. He tells them that among them lies the future Hero who will save the world of Morrigan from evil. While everyone is granted different abilities and titles, Akira Oda, our antisocial classmate, receives the title of Assassin with absurdly high stats.Trama
El anime inicia presentándonos a un grupo de estudiantes de secundaria que, de la nada, son todos transportados a un mundo de fantasía medieval donde son recibidos por la corte real del Reino de Retice. Generic isekai series are so common in the anime world these days that it’s hard to miss one when you’re dedicated to watching them as they air every quarter of the year, like I am. This time around, I came across one that visually caught my eye, and I had at least some expectations for it due to its intriguing premise—though it was also very predictable and familiar. As you read above, My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero's has a very typical start, just like any other Isekai, with the small difference that our protagonist isn’t the Hero, but the Assassin.
Clearly, seeing that distinction was enough to really draw me in, and I wanted to watch more of the anime to see what happened next. However, in the end, I was just disappointed—once again—by its story and what this Isekai anime had to offer. I’m not saying it’s a bad anime, since I admit it’s well-adapted, well-animated, and has a decently developed plot. What I didn’t like about this anime was the way they crammed certain moral and emotional dilemmas into such an absurd context that it’s very hard to ignore. But anyway, whether it’s just my personal opinion or a minor detail, this left a bad taste in my mouth.
Los Isekais genéricos son algo tan común actualmente en el mundo del anime que es difícil pasar por alto alguno cuando te dedicas a verlos en emisión cada trimestre del año, como yo. En esta ocasión me encontré con uno que, visualmente, me atrajo bastante y le tenía un mínimo de expectativas por su premisa intrigante, aunque muy predecible y conocida también. Como ya leyeron arriba, My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero's tiene un inicio muy típico de cualquier otro Isekai, solo que con la pequeña diferencia de que nuestro protagonista no es el Héroe, sino el Asesino.
Claramente, al ver dicha distinción es evidente que me atrajo bastante y quise ver más del anime para ver lo que sigue. Sin embargo, al final solo me decepcioné, una vez más, de su historia y de lo que este anime Isekai ofrecía. No digo que sea un mal anime ya que admito que está bien adaptado, animado y con una trama decentemente desarrollada. Lo que no me gustó de este anime fue la manera en la que metieron ciertos dilemas morales y emocionales en un contexto tan absurdo que es muy difícil de ignorar. Pero bueno, ya sea por opinión personal o por simple detalle sin importancia, esto me dejó mal.
Source: Tenor.Usually, when you see an Isekai premise featuring an assassin as the protagonist, you expect something very different from what you actually end up getting in this anime. You know, bloodshed, action, absurd fights, and incredible ways of killing. At least that’s what that other Isekai anime planted in my head—the one where an assassin is reincarnated into a fantastical, medieval world where he remains an assassin, but with magic and special abilities. I don’t quite remember the name of the anime, but those in the know will surely recall which one I’m talking about.
That’s why, when I saw the premise of this particular anime, I couldn’t help but compare it to the other Isekai I just mentioned. But no, it wasn’t like that at all. And I think the reason is more logical and reasonable than you’d think, since in the end, Akira Oda is NOT an assassin, but just a simple high school kid who’s just antisocial. Yeah, the only thing our protagonist does throughout the anime is “farm aura”, as kids these days would say. The rest is just for show, since his skills, powers, and high levels are useless if he’s not willing to kill.
Normalmente cuando uno ve una premisa de un Isekai con un asesino como protagonista, lo que esperamos es algo muchísimo más diferente a lo que nos encontramos al final en este anime. Ya saben, matanza, acción, peleas absurdas y formas de asesinar que son increíbles. Al menos eso fue lo que me metió en la cabeza ese otro Isekai donde un asesino es reencarnado en un mundo fantástico y medieval donde sigue siendo un asesino, pero con magia y habilidades especiales. No recuerdo bien el nombre del anime, pero seguramente los que saben ya recordarán de qué anime estoy hablando.
Es por eso que, al ver la premisa de este anime en particular, me fue imposible no compararla con el otro Isekai que les acabo de contar. Pero no, no fue así en lo absoluto. Y creo que la razón es más lógica y razonable de lo que uno creería, ya que al final Akira Oda NO es un asesino, sino un simple adolescente de secundaria que solo es antisocial nomás. Si, lo único que hace nuestro protagonista a lo largo del anime es “farmear aura” como dirían los jóvenes de ahora. De resto, es pura pantalla ya que, tanto sus habilidades, poderes y altos niveles no le sirven de nada si no está dispuesto a matar.

The good thing about this anime is that both its plot and its characters help ensure that the dilemma we see in this anime ends in a somewhat satisfying way, at least for me personally.
Ever since the incident involving the death of Akira’s master, the dilemma of being an Assassin who doesn’t kill and a revenge left unfulfilled due to the protagonist’s moral dilemma has persisted. So watching all of this unfold as one event follows another makes you, unconsciously, hooked on seeing how it all ends. The good thing about the anime is that, yes, it does have a final resolution and everything. This makes all the tropes, generic characters, and predictable plot twists in this Isekai worth watching. Of course, it all depends on what you expect to see in this anime.
Si, podemos verlo pelear con monstruos, salvar a sus compañeros, princesas, reinos mágicos, etc. Pero al final decepciona un poco en ciertos momentos de encuentros o desenlaces finales donde uno esperaría un acto final de venganza o algo más concluyente. Pero nada, el protagonista mantiene su “aura” y evita matar, incluso cuando su enemigo es un ser tan vil que abusa de los demás y asesina a gente inocente sin chistar. Lo bueno de este anime es que tanto su trama como sus personajes ayudan a que dicho dilema que vemos en este anime termine de una forma un tanto satisfactoria, en lo personal.
Desde el incidente de la muerte del maestro de Akira, el dilema de ser un Asesino que no mata y una venganza sin ser realizada debido a dicho dilema moral que tiene el protagonista. Entonces ver todo esto en desarrollo mientras contemplamos un suceso tras otro hace que uno, inconscientemente, se enganche para ver cómo es que termina. Lo bueno del anime es que, si, tiene su desenlace final y todo. Esto hace que todos los tropos, personajes genéricos, y giros de trama predecibles que tiene este Isekai valgan la pena verlos. Claro, todo depende de lo que esperes ver en este anime.
Source: Tenor.And I think what many would expect from an isekai like this is exactly what the anime itself promises in its first, successful episode: a story of revenge, personal growth, a dilemma to be resolved, and a fantasy adventure that isn’t as colorful and pleasant as what we’re usually used to seeing. We also get to see the other side of those so-called “enemies” who typically face off against the hero. This approach to giving these antagonists humanity and character development is something I really liked. Yoru’s case is a prime example, and he’s the main character through whom we see this character development unfold.
As for the action, I don’t think it disappoints—at least not when it comes to watching our protagonist fight monsters, demons, and all sorts of other enemies. On the other hand, the comedy in this anime is somewhat bittersweet due to its highly detailed and aesthetic animation style. It doesn’t have as much comedy as one might expect from a generic Isekai, which is a good thing. The same goes for "Fanservice”, which is also absent—and that’s appreciated as well. What it does have is romance, which they manage to keep to a minimum.
Y creo que lo que muchos esperarían de un Isekai como éste es exactamente todo lo que el propio anime promete en su primer y exitoso episodio. Una historia de venganza, desarrollo personal, un dilema por resolver y una aventura fantástica no muy colorida y agradable como normalmente uno está acostumbrado a ver. Vemos también el otro lado de esos supuestos “enemigos” que normalmente se enfrentan al héroe. Esta forma de darle humanidad y desarrollo a estos antagonistas es algo que me agradó bastante. El caso de Yoru es uno de esos y es el principal del cual podemos ver dicho desarrollo de personajes.
En cuanto a acción considero que no decepciona, al menos, sobre todo al momento de ver a nuestro protagonista luchar contra monstruos, demonios y cualquier otro tipo de enemigos. Por otro lado, en cuanto a la comedia que vemos en este anime es un tanto agridulce debido a su estilo de animación tan detallado y estético que tiene. No tiene mucha comedia como esperaría uno ver de un Isekai genérico, lo cual es bueno. Lo mismo sucede con el “Fanservice” que tampoco tiene y que se agradece también. Lo que sí tiene es romance, lo cual consiguen reducirlo al mínimo.

And last but not least, let’s now discuss the audiovisual aspects of My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s. Produced and animated by two studios that have been around for decades, we can witness a remarkable level of visual quality. Starting with the highly detailed character designs, the dark and varied color palette, and the use of light and shadow. We can also see certain details in its visual effects. It doesn’t have the best animation or fluidity out there, but it does manage to stand out from the crowd. The sound effects also stand out very well, as does the soundtrack. Anyway, I’ll leave this anime here in case you’re interested.
Personally, I give it a rating of 8/10 in terms of the fantasy, adventure, and action genres.
Debido al dilema moral que padece el protagonista, la lucha que tiene el Reino de Retice con el ejército del Rey Demonio y el camino de venganza que recorre Akira Oda; cosas como los clichés románticos no hacen falta y el anime logra darle su debido tiempo a cada cosa. También podemos ver un contraste bastante palpable de qué lado es el correcto, siendo el Reino una simple fachada de algo más grande y oscuro ocurriendo tras bastidores. Esto hace que la típica premisa del “camino del héroe” y la lucha contra el Rey Demonio pase a ser de segundo plano al mostrarnos primero el lado oscuro de esta sociedad de aristócratas medievales.
Y por último, pero no menos importante, hablemos ahora del apartado audiovisual de My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero's. Producida y animada por dos estudios que lleva ya muchas décadas existiendo, podemos presenciar un notable nivel de calidad visual. Empezando por el diseño bien detallado de los personajes, la paleta oscura y variada de colores y el uso de luces y sombras. También podemos ver ciertos detalles en cuanto a sus efectos visuales. No tiene la mejor animación o fluidez que existe, pero sí consigue destacarse de la mayoría. En cuanto a los efectos de sonido también se destaca muy bien, al igual que la banda sonora. En fin, les dejo este anime, por si les interesa.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 8/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía, aventura y acción.
