Flower and Asura | Nattosheru Review [ENG/SPA]

I don't normally do this, but during my previous review of Ruri Rocks, I realized that I hadn't talked about this anime at the time, an anime that I watched when it aired and that I quite liked despite being very different from what I'm used to watching. I'm talking about Flowers and Ashura, an anime that was also produced by Studio Bind and that went so unnoticed at the time that even I forgot to review it. That's why, after finishing talking about the anime I watched last summer, I want to also review what I watched in previous seasons and bring you some anime that I discarded for X or Y reasons.

On this occasion, I can't tell you what stopped me from reviewing Flower and Ashura at the time, as it was an anime that I really liked despite having a story related to high school students who do storytelling and radio broadcasting programs. I don't know what category or genre to put this anime in because, although at first it seems to be a Slice of Life anime, there are also many emotional or dramatic moments, if you will. Also, the theme of storytelling and all that doesn't really put it in a specific category either. That's why it's best to just think of it as a Seinen anime and leave it at that.

Normalmente no hago esto, pero durante la anterior reseña de Ruri Rocks he notado que no he hablado de este anime en su momento, un anime que he visto cuando se emitió y que me gustó bastante a pesar de ser algo muy diferente a lo que estoy acostumbrado a ver. Hablo de Flowers and Ashura, un anime que también fue producido por Studio Bind y que pasó tan desaparecido en su momento que hasta yo mismo me olvidé de reseñarla. Es por eso que, luego de terminar de hablar de los animes que he visto en la pasada temporada de verano, quiero repasar también lo que he visto en temporadas anteriores y traerles algunos animes que descarté por X o Y razones.

En esta ocasión, no sabría decirles qué fue lo que le detuvo a hacerle una reseña a Flower and Ashura en su momento ya que fue un anime que me agradó mucho a pesar de tener una historia relacionada a estudiantes de secundaria que realizan narraciones y programas de radiodifusión. No sé en qué categoría o género denominar este anime ya que, si bien al principio parece ser un Slice of Life, hay también muchos momentos emotivos o dramáticos, si podrían decirse así. También que el tema de las narraciones y todo eso tampoco lo deja en una posición tan determinada que digamos. Por eso es mejor pensar que es un Seinen y ya.

But anyway, despite its seemingly simple premise, it is interesting for the mere fact of how the narratives in this work are presented and illustrated. They literally take the motto "live what you read" to heart, because in each episode where we see the characters performing a narration or reading, the anime makes us experience what we hear with scenes, background music, and sounds that leave you completely perplexed, fascinated, or excited. Personally, I really liked this detail and I think it's what stands out most about this anime, apart from its high audiovisual quality, of course.

Apart from this, you can see that it's a typical Slice of Life story with high school students living their lives normally. The only difference here is the characters and how they develop throughout the anime. Something very common in a Seinen is to deal with topics that are a little more serious or complex for a teenager, which is ironic to see in an anime where the protagonists are teenagers, but oh well. Being a Seinen, we can feel somewhat familiar with some of the experiences or problems suffered by our members of the Broadcasting Club.

Pero bueno, a pesar de su premisa aparentemente sencilla, es interesante por el mero hecho de cómo nos presentan e ilustran las narraciones en esta obra. Literalmente se toman a pecho el lema de “vivir lo que lees” ya que en cada episodio donde vemos a los personajes realizar alguna narración o lectura, el anime nos hace vivir lo que escuchamos con escenarios, músicas de fondo y sonidos que te dejan completamente perplejo, fascinado o emocionado. A mí en lo personal me gustó mucho este detalle y considero que es lo que más llama la atención de todo este anime, aparte de su alto nivel audiovisual, claro.

Aparte de esto, se puede ver que es una historia típica de cualquier Slice of Life con estudiantes de secundaria viviendo sus vidas con total normalidad. Lo único diferente que vemos aquí son los personajes y los desarrollos que estos tienen a lo largo del anime. Algo muy común en un Seinen es el tratar temas un poco más serios o complejos para un adolescente, lo cual es irónico verlos en un anime donde los protagonistas son adolescentes, pero bueno. Al ser un Seinen, podemos sentirnos en parte familiarizados con algunas de las experiencias o problemáticas que padecen nuestros miembros del Club de Radiodifusión.

Topics such as self-doubt, the desire to fulfill your dreams, the demands of a pragmatic society, and facing someone with talent, among many others, are covered in this anime. All of this is what we can see and learn from the daily lives of Hana and the other members of the Broadcasting Club. Each member has their own peculiarities and problems that we will see throughout the series. All this while we listen to the fantastic narrations of our protagonist, which allow us to live unimaginable experiences thanks to her talented voice and interpretation. Watching this anime is literally a complete audiovisual delight.

Clearly, being a Seinen (I repeat), we will also see some relationships blossom and develop between the different characters we will meet in this anime. From the shy Hana, who at first hesitates to join the Broadcasting Club because she doesn't have enough confidence in herself and her voice for narration, to the energetic and cheerful club president, Mizuki Usurai, who discovers our protagonist's great talent when she hears her read on different occasions at the beginning of the anime. Each relationship we see in this anime has its own notable source and development.

Temas como la autodesconfianza, el deseo de realizar tus sueños, las exigencias de una sociedad pragmática, el enfrentarse a alguien con talento, entre muchas otros son los que tratan en este anime. Todo esto es lo que podemos ver y aprender de la vía diaria de Hana y los demás miembros del Club de Radiodifusión. Cada miembro tiene su peculiaridad y problemas que veremos a lo largo de la serie. Todo esto mientras escuchamos las fantásticas narraciones que realiza nuestra protagonista, lo cual nos hace vivir experiencias inimaginables gracias a su talentosa voz e interpretación. Ver este anime es literalmente un completo disfrute audiovisual.

Claramente, al ser un Seinen (repito), también veremos algunas relaciones nacer y desarrollarse entre los diferentes personajes que iremos conociendo en este anime. Desde la tímida Hana quien al principio duda en si unirse o no al Club de Radiodifusión ya que no posee la suficiente confianza en sí misma y en su voz para la narración; hasta la misma enérgica y alegre presidenta del club, Mizuki Usurai quien descubre el grandioso talento que posee nuestra protagonista al escucharla leer en diferentes oportunidades al principio del anime. Cada relación que vemos en este anime tiene su fuente y desarrollo notables.

If I had to classify this anime in one way, it would definitely be as a story of personal growth, as the development of its various characters is quite remarkable. We can also learn a little about the interesting world of storytelling and interpretation that this anime shows us. We learn about different talents, as well as different ways of participating in this type of event. The way in which all of this is presented makes you want to know more. It definitely convinces us that the japanese take storytelling very seriously.

Last but not least, let's talk about the audiovisual aspect of Flowers and Ashura. As I've mentioned several times, Studio Bind is in charge of this adaptation, and they've really outdone themselves. The animation, character design, color palette, fluidity, and level of visual detail are all fascinating. It also has an impressive way of making transitions and building incredible scenes. The sound effects are also impressive, although most of the credit goes to the voice acting. The soundtrack is insane and helps to heighten the emotion of each scene to its peak. Anyway, here's another different and interesting anime for you to watch.

Personally, I give it a rating of 8/10 in terms of the drama genre.

Si tuviera que clasificar este anime de una manera sería definitivamente como una historia de crecimiento personal, ya que es bastante notable el desarrollo de los distintos personajes que posee. También podemos aprender un poco sobre este interesante mundo de la narración y la interpretación que nos muestra este anime. Conocemos distintos talentos, así como también diferentes formas de participar en este tipo de eventos. La forma en la que nos presentan todo esto te llena de interés por saber más. Definitivamente, esto nos convence de que los japoneses sí le ponen seriedad al tema de la narración.

Por último, pero no menos importante, hablemos ahora del apartado audiovisual de Flowers and Ashura. Como ya les mencioné varias veces, Studio Bind está a cargo de esta adaptación y vaya que se lució bastante. Tanto su animación como el diseño de sus personajes, su paleta de colores, su fluidez y el nivel de detalles visuales que posee son fascinantes. También tiene una impactante forma de realizar transiciones y construir escenarios increíbles. Los efectos de sonido tampoco se quedan atrás, aunque la mayoría del crédito se lo llevan las voces. La banda sonora es una locura que ayuda a elevar la emoción de cada escena hasta su punto máximo. En fin, aquí les dejo otro anime distinto e interesante para ver.

Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 8/10 en lo que respecta al género del drama.
