Back in January, one of our friends was cast netting near the railroad bridge. He called another friend's phone and this friend's wife answered, she said no one said anything so she hung up, he called back and the same thing. The third time he called she told her husband the same number keeps calling his phone. He looked at the number and answered and this time Stephen was able to say, "I need help, railroad bridge. That is all he could say. Joe quickly called another fisherman who had a boat in the water.

When they got to the railroad bridge, Stephen could talk and knew who they were but he could not move, he had a stroke. He got worse once at the hospital and ended up on a life support machine. After a week, they said he would not come back.

Today, a celebration of life was held in his honor. The sky started looking like rain, but the sun stayed out long enough for the Service.

I cut some roses from my Mom's rose bush to take with me. I gave one to his girlfriend and one to Joe's wife, and we walked to the river, the same river he was in, and said a Prayer for him.

I always called him The Shadow. As I was putting my boat in the water every day, he was pulling his out, he night fished and I joked he was afraid of his shadow. He was a good man, always polite, and he was close to God, I know he is now with Him.

While there, I said, now we have one more service to go to. I lost another friend last month. That is when I found out his Service was also today and for the same time.
