The turkey was Dinner, not for dinner, her name was dinner. We came home from fishing, and on our kitchen table was a bald bird in a birdcage, it was almost as tall as the cage. Without any feathers, I was not sure what kind of bird it was, but my husband said it was a turkey. Also sitting on the table, next to the cage, was a note that read, We found this bird, we do not know what it is, but we call it dinner. That is how she got her name. The puppy's name was Tardis, named after Doctor Who's spaceship telephone box.

She grew to be part of the family, no turkey bacon will be made from her. She loved to play with the kids. They would run and jump as far as they could, and she would follow them, doing the same, except she would run and fly. She would land where they landed.

I think her favorite game with them was king of the mountain. We had a dry ditch behind our house, and the kids would be at the bottom of it. She would chase them back down when they tried to climb to the top.

I had a friend who drove a red Firebird. The first time she came to see me, I was in the front yard with Dinner. Dinner fell in love with her car, she would stand by it with her wings dropped to the ground and make a clicking sound.

She always followed me when I told her to come, but this day I tried to get her to the backyard, and she would not leave the car. I had to carry her to her cage.

I thought I had a secure cage for her, I even had a top on it. One night, a bobcat got to her. We could see several places around the cage where the bobcat had dented it by hitting it. It finally hit it enough to break through and get to her. My husband followed the trail of feathers through the woods and found where the bobcat had eaten what it wanted and covered what was left with leaves so it could come back later and eat more.

I wanted to take her home and bury her, but my husband said we should leave her and let the bobcat finish eating. I did not like this idea, but went along with it. Having the rest of her to eat might have saved someone else's pet.
