5 minute freewrite 2748 prompt not really a conservative

Today, we remember the men and women who gave their lives in times of war. My oldest sister lost her husband, and we lost a brother, both in Vietnam. Several years ago, a friend of ours made this statue, the dog tags that lay at its side have the names of the wars and the total number of military lives that were lost. Most people find this day, a day to celebrate, I do not agree, it is a day to grieve.

The man who built this statue is a republican and in the early 1990s he ran for our State Representative. Even though I am not really a conservative, and had never voted, I registered as a Republican so I could vote for him, he is an honest man, and after winning, he stayed as our representative for several years. He did not like what he was seeing in politics and quit. He then ran for our county tax collector and won that position. His heart was always in the right place, but he missed working with his hands and being on the river, so he quit, and now he makes things like this statue and the art below.

He made this gator. At night its eyes would light up red, just like a gator would do at night if you hit it with a light.
