5 minute freewrite 2742 prompt not a deficiency
This is my post for #freewriters 2742 prompt not a deficiency hosted by @mariannewest
This has been another hard day. We had 90 bait in the holding pen and ran the traps for another 60. I have been wanting to fish the Old Inlet, so we ran to it first. When we got to the back of it where I have always caught trout, I did not want to run my boat across the flat where I catch them, so I rode close to the trees in as shallow water as my boat could go. I saw a fish run off and thought it was a trout, then another ran off, and I got a good look at it, it was a trout. Then 5 ran off, and another 5 or 6. My sister was excited and a little pissed at me because I would not stop and fish. I told her there was no use, we scared them off, and they would not be there. I went on and fished several places and never caught anything. I figured the trout we saw had time to settle down and hoped they moved back to where they were, so we went back to it and anchored. I caught one that was a quarter inch too short.
We went to Starvation to fish, but there were two boats fishing in the slough that you take to get into it. I did not want to run my boat near where they were fishing, so we went to Campbell's Pocket. It was clear, and we caught sailcats in the deeper water. As we were leaving, I could see the small cove inside it was colored, which was odd for everything else to be clear. We fished in it and caught 4. I told my sister that trout are in bad shape when we could fish all day for 1 and again all day for four.
I pulled our bait holder up to put the leftover bait away, and these baby pigfish fell out of it. They are so small they can go through the mesh, and they fell into the bottom of the boat. There is not supposed to be any pigfish up the creek, or they used to not be up there. My husband set a pigfish trap near my holder, and it only had three blowfish in it.
My sister put the leftover bait in the holder. She does not like using the bailer to catch them, she wants to use a net. I do not like using a net because it rubs the slime off of them. All day fishing, she will not reach in with her hand and catch one like I do, she uses the little net.
When we got home, we found out there is not a deficiency in trout, it just depends where you fish. My husband was home with his catch. He trailered his boat to Grant and caught 20 trout that weighed 49 pounds, ours weighed 10 pounds. He said he caught them in the shallowest water that he has ever fished. That made sense to me because the fish we saw were in a little over a foot of water. I forgot to take a picture of the fish.
