5 minute freewrite 2739 prompt pleasant place
This is my post for #freewriters 2739 prompt pleasant place hosted by @mariannewest
Today we did not fish, but since we did not run the bait traps yesterday, they needed to be run today. There was no school, so my sister's granddaughters went with us. It made for a crowded little boat. My boat is only 14 feet long and at its widest 4 feet across.
After getting home yesterday and showing my husband the fish we caught, it lit a fire under him, and today he put his pigfish traps in the river. He pulled up to us when we were running our traps. I told him we had good bait inshore, but the offshore line did not have much. He told me he put his traps north of Summit Island and has most of them inshore and one line offshore. I hope he can catch bait up there. We caught 130.
After catching our bait, I took the girls to my pleasant place, which is Judahs Island, and let them play on the swing and swim. The little one told her grandma it was the best day she has had in a long time.
I was walking around the island picking up fossils, and I showed her one and told her it was a million year old turtle shell. She asked if she could have it. I was going to give it to her, but thought it would be better if she could find some on her own. She found two, I think that meant more to her than me just giving them to her, you should have heard her excitement when she told her grandma what she found.
They had fun, and after swimming and having lunch on the island, it was time to put my bait away. I am keeping my holding pen up the creek, and when I lifted it from the water, six baby pigfish fell through the mesh. I was surprised, pigfish had never been that far up the creek, they used to not even live up there because the water was too fresh. They have really changed things since they stopped the freshwater from entering the river. They are turning the creek into saltwater.

Well-done I like the way you allowed your grand niece to search for her own turtles shell. She will always live with that experience. Good bait and nice catch too
Thank you. Yes it meant more to her when she found her own. If she had not found any, I was going to give her mine.
Of course I know that
Oh man that rope swing looks fun.. Idk if I would jump off that platform though.. haha
The platform is more like a tree house or lookout tower; the water under it is less than knee deep. The swing is fun, I like to swing on it, too.
No surprise that she had the best day of her life! She is quite lucky I must say!

Thanks, she now likes my hobby of looking for fossils. The other one did not care to find them.
