Being Serious About Feeding Chickens: Making Sure They Get What Their Bodies Need

My hubby used to feed our chickens whenever he had time.

‎Some days they get a full scoop of feed, other days only what was left.

We assumed eggs would come naturally.

‎At their age, they should have been laying eggs by now.

‎That's when my hubby realized that the problem is their diet.

‎Because they weren't eating enough feed consistently, their egg-laying was delayed.

‎That realization changed how he approached his role in our little homestead.

‎--

‎Last week, he decided to be serious about it.

‎Every day, without fail, he feeds them properly.

No skipping.

‎He makes sure they get what their bodies need, not just what's convenient for us.

‎Actually, we're not demanding immediate results.

‎We simply do our part and wait.

‎--

‎This morning, my hubby was supposed to feed the chickens.

‎But our baby Aiden tagged along beside him, and didn't want to go with me.

‎He chose to stay with his daddy.

‎So instead of heading out, he babysat and handed the task over to me.

‎He gave simple instructions on how much to give, where to place it, etc.

‎I thought feeding the chickens meant giving them feeds and I'm done.

‎But apparently, that's not how it works.

‎Not when my hubby is serious about their health.

‎So he started giving me instructions.

‎He told me to scoop eight tablespoons of feed. Not more, not less.

After that, he instructed me to gather ten large oregano leaves, mince them, and mix them into the feed.

Put a small amount of water, just enough to wet everything.

Actually, I don't fully understand why I need to do it, but I know it has a purpose.

‎When the feed was done, he told me to remove the old water, wash the container thoroughly, refill it with clean water, and then add a piece of garlic.

At that point, I didn't even ask why anymore. I just followed. Lol.

‎Honestly, I may not understand the science behind all of it, but I do understand the intention.

‎It's to care. Not just feeding.

‎It's making sure the chickens are healthy and strong.

While I watched them eat, I realized that homesteading is not about shortcuts. It's about consistency, effort, and trusting the process.

‎Hopefully, with this kind of care, they'll soon give back what we've been patiently waiting for.

‎Their eggs. 😍

‎Until my next chicken care...

Thanks for the visit! Have a lovely day. Buh-bye. 💗🌸
