That Unbelievable Day I’ll Never Forget

It was December a day of every other Monday. I got up early, around 6:00 am, prepared for work, and headed out. I was already thinking about the day ahead when I saw a Neat Vehicle like Uber coming my way. The vehicle was heading towards my direction and the price it called was unbelievably cheap, and I didn’t think too hard before hopping on that because it was beat and had AC in it and overall it was cheap I can sleep till I reach my point of destination. That decision almost ruined my life.
Not long after we started moving, we reached a checkpoint There was traffic i could see the driver shaking i was asking why he never gave me a reply why do I care free AC then the police stopped us. At first, I thought it was a normal checkpoint, but things turned quickly. The officers said everyone should come down we asked why the officer we going to our workplace. He shouted Come down or we will shoot We obliged immediately at the front of a gun Next thing he said We have the right to remain silent. That this vehicle was a stolen one I froze upon hearing that statement sent a shiver down my spine. The next thing I knew, they asked all of us to step down, and within minutes, we were all taken to the police station.
I tried to explain, but my voice wasn’t even being heard. I got a hot slap just for saying I didn’t know the driver stole a vehicle. I kept thinking: How did I end up here? This wasn't what I planned my day to go out like I was just trying to get to work, and now I’m sitting in a station with criminals. The morning passed, then the afternoon, and still no progress. It was like I was trapped in a bad dream.
Hope came when the owner of the stolen vehicle showed up. I thought that was it we’d be set free since I had nothing to do with the theft. But that hope disappeared as quickly as it came. The man said he didn’t recognize any of us. That hit me hard. The hours kept dragging. Hunger. Stress. Embarrassment. I just wanted to go home.
Eventually, they brought in the Driver and started pressing him. It took hours of questions and pressure, but finally, he broke. He admitted that he picked us up from the roadside and we had no idea the vehicle was stolen. That was the turning point. We were asked to write statements and were finally allowed to go.
I was tired, hungry, and drained emotionally. I wasn’t even sure whether to go to work anymore or just sleep off the madness of the day. But since I stay closer to work during weekdays, I decided to go straight there.
The good news? I had explained everything to my HR on the phone earlier, and thankfully, they understood. When I got to work, everyone was just lounging. No serious work was even happening. It felt like a wasted day for everyone except for me, who had lived through what felt like a whole movie.
That experience taught me a big lesson. Not every motor that comes down at your bus-stop and has a cheap ride has AC is worth entering. And sometimes, life can flip in a second, even when you think you’re just following your normal routine.
I thank God I walked out of that station as a free man. Because for a while, I didn’t know if I would.

Cheap things seriously need questioning some times
So sorry about your ordeal and thank God you learnt something from it ☺️
I most say that it is not all things which are cheap are of great benefits, in this hard economic were the cost of transportation is elevating day by day, one can only think of managing cash by boarding a less expensive ride. I just thank God that the driving later spoke the truth. Your HR is really understanding, it is kind of hard to find people who are understanding especially when it concerns working activities, I am glad you were out of the station on time, you must have thought that you would leave the station at night 🤤, stay safe amigo.
