Howdy to you midnight community, it’s been a while since I wrote a prompt in this community. This week’s prompt got me all excited.
Anyway, back to the prompt of this week..

Would I rather travel to the past or the future?
Honestly, this question make me sit down and start thinking at first I took it as something simple wish I could just provide quick reply to but not as easy as i imagine it. I was going to quickly say “the future,” because who wouldn’t want to see how life turns out? But the more I thought about it, the more I realized it’s not that simple.
If I had the chance, I think I would choose to travel to the past.
Not because I want to change anything, but because I want to understand things better.
There are so many moments in my life that I didn’t fully understand when they were happening. Times when I was confused, times when I felt lost, or even moments when I made decisions I didn’t fully think through. Going back would give me the chance to see those moments again, but this time with the knowledge I have now.
I would love to see my younger self, not to interfere, but to just observe things. To see how far I’ve come. To understand why I thought the way I did back then. Sometimes, we are too hard on ourselves because we forget we were just trying to survive with what we knew at the time.
Another reason why I would pick the past is because of memories. There are people, moments, and feelings that time has slowly taken away. Being able to relive those moments, even for a short while, would mean a lot. Not everything in the past was perfect, but some moments were pure and real, and I miss that.
Now, even the future is tempting too, I won’t lie. Knowing what lies ahead, whether I succeed, where life takes me, if all the struggles I’m going through now will pay off… it sounds amazing. But at the same time, I feel like knowing too much about the future might take away the excitement of living.
Life is unpredictable, and that’s what makes it interesting. If I already knew how everything would turn out, I might lose the motivation to keep pushing. The surprises, the wins, even the losses they all shape who I become.
So yeah, I would choose the past.
Not to fix it, not to change it, but to understand it, appreciate it, and maybe finally make peace with some parts of it.
Because sometimes, looking back is what helps us move forward better.
