If the Internet Disappeared, I’d Still Have My Fire

Hello everyone, I’m happy to be joining today’s Hive Learners prompt. The topic is about a skill that doesn’t require the internet something that could still be useful if one day the online world suddenly disappeared.
Honestly, this is something I’ve thought about more than once. The digital world is fast and demanding, and most of us have become deeply tied to it maybe even dependent on it. But if it all vanished tomorrow, I believe I’d still be able to stand on my feet, because I have something to fall back on.
When I was younger, I used to draw. It started as a natural thing nothing forced, just passion. I could spend hours sketching characters, scenes, or whatever came to mind. It felt peaceful and powerful. But life happened, and I had to put survival first. The dream of becoming a full-time artist slowly faded as I got pulled into the digital hustle. I don’t dislike the online space, but it feels like survival more than joy now. Drawing used to be my escape, but at some point, it stopped being that for me. I still respect the skill it can earn a living but I no longer feel the connection I once had with it.
Now, if I had to choose a skill I could rely on offline something that I’d actually enjoy doing even in a world without the internet it would be cooking. That’s one skill I’ve always had a strong love for, maybe even more than drawing if I’m honest.
My love for cooking started early. I used to help my mom in the kitchen, not because I had to, but because I genuinely enjoyed it. There was something magical about turning raw ingredients into something delicious. Watching her mix spices, stir pots, and taste as she went along it was like watching an artist at work. Over time, I started picking up her habits and adding a few of my own. I experimented, failed, learned, and improved. Cooking, to me, feels like both art and survival.
It’s more than just food it’s joy, creativity, comfort, and even healing. I enjoy trying out new meals, tasting different flavors, and sharing food with others. It gives me a sense of purpose. If the internet disappeared, I wouldn’t panic. I’d probably open a small food business or just cook for a local community. It’s something I feel deeply connected to like it came from within me.
So yes, while I’ve had a few skills over time, drawing was something I did, but cooking is something I am. That’s the one skill I know I could carry with me through any season, even if the digital world stopped spinning.
Thanks for reading my take on this prompt. I’m looking forward to hearing what skills others have to fall back on, too
