Fig ladder
More than a week ago I was making a ladder for a pear tree.
At that time I didn't have any materials so I made what I had on hand.
In the meantime I took off the entire roof of the garage.
A few beams had rotted and I didn't want to wait for winter and snow and hope it didn't fall.
I decided to take everything off slowly, use what I could and then put the new roof back on the garage.
In the meantime while I wait for the new battens to arrive.
I have too many old battens from the garage roof.
I was too optimistic when I supported the fig tree with a single stick.
I just bought myself some time until I found the material for the ladder for the fig tree.
And the material arrived in the form of laths from the garage roof.
I left all the laths that weren't rotten.
I chose the straightest slats.
Removed the nails from them.
and cut them to the measurements I had already determined in advance.
I straightened the old nails that I took out of the laths and used them to make a ladder.
I made three ladders in total.
I arranged them around the fig tree to support the branches.
I connected the ladders together with small pieces of lath and wire.
And I also made sure that the lath supported the branch.
The reason for this ladder is the same as for the pear.
A young plant with lots of fruit that is large and heavy.
So that the branches don't crack and break and the plant doesn't get sick.
I make this improvised ladder and support the loaded branches.
Here are a few pictures to see how much fruit our fig tree can bear.
While I was setting up the ladder, I was careful not to damage the saplings that I will transplant in the fall.
Thanks for reading.
Until next time.
Stay healthy.
