Halloween Hiking around San Diego - My Actifit Report Card: November 1 2025

Hey Actifitters,
For our second day in San Diego, we had planned some light hiking, nothing extremely strenuous before my race on Saturday. We started in the morning with Annie's Canyon Trail. It's just off the highway near Solana Beach.

It's a short one but its small narrow slot canyon makes it unique.

High sandstone walls on both sides, this is pretty cool.

Quite narrow in some sections.

And of course, the metal ladder near the end of the short climb makes it even more original.

The views from up there and during the descent are really beautiful too.

Parts of the trail were closed for maintenance, but we added a few loops here and there to make it a decent first small hike for the day.

On the way to our next destination, we stopped in Del Mar for lunch. Cool place with lots of restaurants. And we could also relax for a while with a perfect view on the ocean. Funny to find these train tracks so close to shore, and apparently busy as we saw at least three trains in the short time we stayed there.

The next hike on the menu was in Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve in La Jolla. When you see that scenery at the beginning of a hike, you know it's going to be awesome.

People know I prefer mountains to pretty much anything else, but coastal cliffs are definitely high up on the favorites. And there are some very nice ones there.

I don't remember exactly in which order or even which viewpoints they were, but we followed multiple trails to reach Yukka Point, Black Beach and Flat Rock, possibly a couple more.

These things kind of reminded me of the hoodoos you can find at Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah.

We walked all the way down to the beach.

I really liked the contrast between the blue sky, these yellow bluffs and the white from waves breaking near the beach.

We didn't stay very long down near the water but I believe you can find fun tide pools at low tide. It was time for us to walk back up though.

We tried different routes to climb back up but the views were just as great.

One last view before we were done with another not so long but awesome hike. Parts can be a little steep, but overall it was also a fairly easy one.

We finished early because my friend who welcomed us in San Diego has kids and wanted to go trick-or-treating with them. It's obviously not my thing at all, as I tend to stay as far away as possible from kids and families in general. But I followed along as they went door to door in that friendly neighborhood. A good thing is that it helped me reach the bar one more time for #poprzeczka competition. The last part of the day was the 2+ hours drive to 29 Palms near Joshua Tree National Park where I have my race on Saturday and we'll follow with a couple of hiking days.
Well, it was another good day in our short vacations. The next one might be grueling for me. You might remember I wasn't really well prepared for the Detroit half marathon, but two weeks and only one run later, I'm even less prepared for this one. But I know I'll finish it no matter what and I really have no time target for this one, so it should be all good.
As always, thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow.
