Celebrating Palm Sunday At Our Local Church!

Today, April April 13th, was celebrated as Palm Sunday in the Christian community around the world.

In Christendom, Palm Sunday is a significant event which is celebrated in commemoration of Jesus Christ's triumphant and messianic entry into Jerusalem. This day represents Jesus' humility, peace, and ultimate sacrifice at Calvary Cross for the redemption of man. It's often observed on the Sunday before Easter and marks the beginning of Holy Week.

Although Palm Sunday is a day of joyful celebration, it is also a day of prayer, reflection and preparation for the holy week and Easter.

Palm Sunday observance varies across different denominations and traditions, but many christian denominations such as, the Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, Anglicans, and some Protestant churches often celebrate with processions and special services.

In Catholic church, Palm Sunday, also known as Passion Sunday, is the last Sunday of Lent. This day is marked by special traditions and Mass readings.

It is commemorated in various ways in the Church history, but here in my region, the Mass begins with an organized procession at a designated place outside the church.

Before the procession, the officiating Priest will begin by saying a special prayer followed by blessing of the palm branches and sprinkling of Holy water on the faithfuls, while the choir render solemn songs.

After that, everyone then proceeds to the church for second phase of the Mass, singing and dancing.

So I visited our local station, St Helen's Catholic Church, Aba, and joined other devotees to celebrate Palm Sunday. I feel grateful for the opportunity to participate in this year's Palm Sunday celebration.
