Splinterlands Frontier: Buying and Upgrading More Cards

Hello Splinterlands Summoners and welcome to my blog! Last week I upgraded my Fire and Death archons giving them access to higher level units. This time I'm upgraded up my Life archon to level three. I also bought a couple of A'lan Musketeer cards and upgraded him to maximum level. At first I underestimated A'lan because I only considered him at level one but at level two he gets an extra attack that makes his Double Strike ability more powerful.

Incessant Sage

Incessant Sage is the Life archon. It's a defensive archon that grants an armor to all allied to all allied units. He is similar to the first Life archon Tyrus Paladium.

After upgrading the archon to level three, it now has access to higher stats and abilities of the units it can summon.

Twice Yester Knight

Twice Yester Knight gains another health stat. This is crucial for her role as a tank. That extra attack it can take can spell the difference in battle.

Codex Sage

Codex Sage is a low mana tank with no attack. At level four it gains an extra armor and speed stats. This is important since it has the Void Armor ability, increasing it's defense against physical and magic attacks.

Paprikash

Paprikash gets the most crucial upgrade with one extra attack stat at level three. It's a great unit at position two having the Reach ability.

The other units like Hungry Ulund and Sheringham Logger got updated as well but not as important as the three units above.

A'lan Musketeer

I underestimated this card when I first wrote my tier list I posted months ago. I only considered the cards at level one so the reason for its low rating. However at level two he gets a massive power upgrade gaining an extra attack. Coupled with his Double Strike ability, that means a total of four damage each turn! I've been putting off upgrading him in the hopes of getting a copy from reward chests but I saw that his price has dropped to below 30 cents from the usual 50 cents so I immediately bought two copies and upgraded him to level two.

Battles with Upgraded A'lan Musketeer

I used him in my recent battles and he didn't disappoint. He's my main damage dealer next to Mystic Scaleweaver.

I like using him in high mana battles with the Earth splinter. I have a strong frontline combo with Dread Tafarian and Mad Gearhead. My damage dealers are all ranged units with the main star being A'lan Musketeer dealing four ranged damage per turn.

The enemy is the natural counter to the Earth team. The Death team's archon decreases enemy health, offsetting the Earth archon's health buff to all allied units. However, his tank is best against magic units and my damage dealers were ranged. He also has a unit that decreases enemy health, Sorrow Harvester but it was countered by my Giam Root who has the Strengthen ability. It's funny how these splinters counter each other. The battle was decided by who had the better damage dealers. My ranged units have higher damage output than the enemy's and it proved crucial in this battle.

Water Splinter

A'lan found a spot in my Water team replacing the Water-Logged Wizard. It increased the damage output of my team per round and gave me an edge in battles.

Final Thoughts

After these upgrades, all the splinters in my team are at a competitive level in the Frontier. Unlike in the Modern or Wild Modes where I find it difficult to compete, my deck in the Frontier mode is considered top tier and allows me to compete at the highest levels of the game which I find more fun than other modes of the game.
