My Splinterlands Combo: Quora Towershead and Virid Venomancer

Hello Splinterlands Summoners! Today I would like share one of my new combos in battle. It's a synergy in the Earth Splinter between Quora Towershead and Virid Venomancer. Both cards are strong magic units on their own, but together they create a synergy of damage and sustainability. Let's see how these two cards complement each other in battle.

Quora Towershead

Quora Towershead is an epic Gladiator card. She is one of the strongest and favorite in guild brawls and rightly so. First off, she had dual attack of magic and melee. She also has great speed and high health. For abilities she has Heal aside Bloodlust which is common to all Gladiator cards. With these impressive stats and abilities, Quora is a capable tank having both destructive power and self sustaining ability. This makes Quora one of the powerful if not the most powerful card in the Gladiator set. On the other hand, she is missing one stat to make her more tanky, she lacks an armor. Enter Virid Venomancer.

Virid Venomancer

Virid Venomancer is a common card from the new Conclave Arcana set. She deals two magic damage and has the Shield Ward ability at level three. At level five she gains the Poison ability which allows her to chip away at even the tankiest enemies every turn.

Why This Combo Works

Quora Towershead is a powerful tank having both high damage potential and sustainability but lacking an armor. Virid Venomancer grants Quora the Shield ability, decreasing damage from physical attacks. This ability will make Quora beefier in her tank duties while allowing Virid Venomancer to do damage to the enemy with her magic attacks and Poison from the rear.

Featured Battle

In the following battle, the ruleset was "Are You Not Entertained?" which allows the use of one Gladiator card in the team. Since Earth Splinter is one of the available elements, I immediately picked it up and chose Quora as the Gladiator card.

My Team

Quora Towershead takes tank duties with Virid Venomancer behind her to give her the Shield ability as I wrote above. The rest of my team was composed of elves. The Earth archon, Kaylia Silverleaf grants the Execute ability to all elves making them attack a target again after a successful attack if its health is two or below. This ability has won me a lot of battles since Conclave Arcana came out.

The Opponent Team

My opponent also chose the Earth Splinter and Quora as his Gladiator card. However, he has a different combo in mind. His strategy was to use Quora in the second position but with a tanky first position unit with Flank ability. Flank grants Quora the Reach ability allowing her to attack with melee from the second position. This is another useful ability that will maximize Quora's attacking potential while not taking hits from the first position thus making her survive longer. The opponent's first position unit is the Ulundin Overseer. It has no attack but very tanky with five armor and twelve health. In third position he has a unit that heals his tank, further adding to its survivability.

The Battle

I won the battle without losing any units. Because of Quora's Shield ability, she survived the battle with complete health since the enemy physical attacks from the other units have no effect. While she gets damaged by the enemy Quora, she heals herself every turn keeping her health intact. It allowed my back line units to do damage to the enemy safely from behind their tank.

Final Thoughts

Both teams showed useful combos. While I had Quora and Virid Venomancer, my opponent also had a strong combo of his own featuring Ulundin Overseer, Quora and Satha Toledo (tank healer). My team had the better synergy which also took advantage of the archon's Bloodline Dominion for elves. This allowed my team to win without losing a single unit. Finding combos like these is what makes Splinterlands a fun game. There are a lot more out there waiting to be discovered and used in battles.
