Hello Splinterlands Summoners! Two months ago, Splinterlands released a new card in the voucher shop, DAR GOTTEM GEARNUT. Each copy of the regular foil cost 1,050 Vouchers or around 300 HIVE. Last week, the only Black Foil copy was auctioned using the Auction Marks currency. Before we get into the auction, let's check out DAR GOTTEM GEARNUT's lore, stats and abilties.

Lore

An excerpt of Dar Gottem's lore, he's like Splinterland's version of Ironman who forged his own suit. He survived an encounter with the fearsome dragon, Rage wearing the suit he crafted. His stats and abilities explain how he survived against a feared dragon. He's very tanky as we will see when we review his stats and abilities.

Dar Gottem was never cut out for the forge. Other gnomes of New Wilhelmdale hammered steel into swords or armor; Dar hammered scraps into makeshift wings, plates, and a tail he swore would let him pass as a dragon. His obsession was plain to anyone who heard him roar from behind the smithy or saw him gnash his teeth at passersby.

Then, one day, Dar got it in his head to set out alone and see a real dragon for himself. Maybe he sought a reference for his next suit. Maybe it was simple curiosity. Whatever the reason, he trudged across the Western Lowlands, through the forests of Blackmoor Basin, and into the foothills of the Jagtooth Mountains. High above the clouds loomed Mount Redwyrm, the tallest peak in the range and lair of Rage, the ancient wyrm, and his flight of reds. No sane soul would’ve dared approach.

Stats and Abilities

Dar Gottem Gearnut is a legendary life and dragon element. He's a very sturdy tank that boasts of a huge health pool. At max level, he deals three melee damage and has three speed. His defense is huge with four armor and twenty five health. His abilities are a mix of offense, support and defense. He has Trample which carries his attack to the next unit if the first unit he attacks gets defeated. Flank will grant the Reach ability to another powerful melee unit in second position. Inspire will grant another attack to all melee attackers and finally Void grants Gearnut defense against magic attacks. On the other hand, he requires a hefty fourteen mana to be used in battle but that's not much of a problem as we have a lot of high mana battles in Splinterlands.

Role in Battle and Possible Combos

Dar Gottem Gearnut's is a great tank, especially in high mana battles. He can be used natively by Life, Dragon and Death splinters but as a Dragon, he can be paired with any splinter. He can combo with any other tank in the first position due to his Flank ability. Leolin Sifu, Commander Slade and the likes of Mantaroth who has a support ability immediately come to mind but he is so flexible that he can combo with a lot of other tanks. He will be great in all melee battles since you will have a double tank combo in the first and second position while the rest of the team will be buffed by his Inspire ability. As a gnome, he will have the Painforge ability and can combo with units that have Reckless ability.

Auction Final Price

The auction for the only Black Foil copy was won by cryptomancer for 2,000 Auction Marks. If we estimate the price of Auction Marks at $2.5 each then the price of DAR GOTTEM GEARNUT is around $5,000!

The hefty price can be justified since it's the one and only Black Foil copy of this great card, a true collector's item. Compared to the prices of other modern legendary cards in the market, BF DAR GOTTEM GEARNUT's price is far above than other cards. That's how valuable this card is.

DAR GOTTEM GEARNUT's auction is another successful event in Splinterlands. The auction will further help the game's economy and contribute to its sustainability. The auction also reinforces the prestige of ultra-rare cards that can only be acquired by serious collectors and whales.
