The Owambe Topic courtesy of Samostically
Each time I hear the word Owambe Saturdays or Weekend Hangout, what comes to my mind first is fun and laughter. Many people here already know about the initiative by @samostically through the @samhangout account, but for me I only joined two times and honestly I can say it is one of the best things I have seen on Hive. It is funny, it is educative, and it makes you connect with people in a very simple way.
The first time I joined, I didn’t really know what to expect. I just wanted to see what it was all about since I have been hearing of it. But the moment I got in, I was already enjoying myself. The conversation was lively, people dropping comments left and right, different opinions flying around. It was not boring at all. In fact, one of the things that surprise me was how a topic that looks so simple can generate a lot of talk and still end up being educative.
It was not just a hangout for the sake of it, it was also a place of learning.
And talking about making friends, I will say yes. Even though I have not been too regular, I have still been able to connect with people through the Hangout. Some I met directly from the comments and replies, others I later connected with on their blogs. It feels good because you are not only engaging on a post but you are also building a bond. I can’t count how many people have joined because of me, maybe none yet, but definitely if I talk more about it, I know some people around me will also come in.
I am not yet on the SamHangout discord channel, but I will join very soon. I think that will even give me more access and make me participate more actively. The truth is, initiatives like this makes Hive lively. Without them, things might just be too quiet or too formal sometimes. The hangout brings a kind of balance, you can laugh, learn, and still feel part of a community.
So what do I think about Sam’s Hangout? Honestly, I think it is one of the best initiatives on Hive. Over 2 years running with more than 3000 comments is not a small thing at all. It has made Hive more interesting for me, and I know it has done the same for many others too. Big respect to @samostically for holding it strong and keeping the vibe alive. I look forward to joining more and sharing more experiences there.
