The Kind of Role Model I Want to Be

avatar

When I think about the kind of person I want to be in life, the first name that comes to my mind is Superman. I know he is a fictional superhero, not real, but the lessons behind his character are very real to me. Superman has always been my favorite because even though he has so much power, he never misuses it or treats people like they are less than him. That part of him inspires me a lot.

In today’s world, many people once they get a little power or success, they start looking down on others. They begin to feel superior and treat those below them as if they are nothing. But Superman is the total opposite of that. He has powers that could make him rule the whole earth if he wants, but instead he chooses to serve and help others. That’s the exact role model I want to be like.

Sometimes when I watch Superman movies or even think about his story, I ask myself, “What if I had that kind of strength? What would I do with it?” The easy thing would be to use it to show off or to make people fear me, but that is not what life is really about. For me, I would rather use whatever talent or blessing I have to support others around me.

Another thing I admire about Superman is how he never exposes himself. He doesn’t go around bragging or telling people who he really is. In fact, he hides behind the ordinary life of Clark Kent, a normal reporter. That alone shows humility. He could easily show the world he is the most powerful being alive, but he stays simple. That’s another trait I want to copy. I don’t want to be the type of person that is always showing off or trying to make people praise me.

Sometimes in our daily life, we face situations where we can either lift someone up or ignore them because we feel they don’t matter. Superman always chooses to help. Whether it is a stranger, a child, or even people who don’t like him, he still stretches his hand to save them. That is something I really want to live by. I want to be the kind of person who doesn’t pick who to help but instead does good without expecting anything in return.

Although Superman might just be a fictional hero from comics, but his values are very real. I believe power should come with responsibility, humility should be greater than pride, and helping people should be the way to live. That is why he is not just my favorite superhero but also the role model I would love to be like.
