A Wednesday for Reflection

Last Wednesday, I had a job interview, and I was very happy and excited because I had retired from the university and hadn't been able to find a formal job in my field of study. The jobs I had found so far were informal ones: working with a neighbor who is a refrigeration technician and another neighbor who lent me his car so I could work as a taxi driver.

You have no idea how many job applications I’ve sent out trying to find a position that truly matches my skills, ideally in my area of expertise.

Then, finally, on Monday of that same week, I received a call for an interview. Wow! I felt so excited—I know I already mentioned it, but it was true. Anyone living in Venezuela can understand my excitement. And if you're a university professor in a public institution where the salary doesn't even reach $15 USD, you can understand my joy even more.

Of course, an interview call doesn’t guarantee that I will be hired, but with my strong optimism, I was confident I would be selected.

These photos are from that Wednesday. I am lucky to live near the beach, so that morning, I went for a walk by the shore to relax before my interview, which was scheduled for 11 a.m.

I took these pictures between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m., after dropping off my younger daughter at school and my older daughter at university. I decided to unwind a bit before heading to my interview, and for me, the best way to do that is simply walking along the seaside.

As I walked, the weather was mild—not hot like it usually is. I paused for a moment to reflect and take in the landscape. That’s when I remembered the Wednesday Walk challenge, took out my phone, and began capturing the scenery. There’s even a sequence of photos featuring a pelican that flew right in front of me.

My Wednesday Walk last week was full of joy, emotions, and great news—not only for me but also for my family. That day, I got the job!
