Brunch en el Meliá Habana (Esp/Eng)

¡Hola amigos de Hive Food! Dicen que "uno siempre vuelve a dónde fue feliz". Por eso una vez más estoy acá deseándoles que tengan un excelente día y que Dios los bendiga abundantemente. La cadena de hoteles Meliá aquí en Cuba tiene un slogan particular que ponen en las cajas de cartón de comida para llevar que dice algo así como: "Descansa, hoy cocinamos nosotros". Y resulta que me tomé esa frase bien a pecho, pues decidí tener un brunch con mi querida amiga Yanaidy en el Hotel Meliá Habana.

Hello, friends at Hive Food! They say that “you always return to where you were happy”. That’s why I’m here once again, wishing you all a wonderful day and asking God to bless you abundantly. The Meliá hotel chain here in Cuba has a rather unique slogan printed on their takeaway boxes, which goes something like: “Relax, we’ll do the cooking today”. And it turns out I took that phrase to heart, as I decided to have brunch with my dear friend Yanaidy at the Meliá Habana Hotel.

El lugar es absolutamente hermoso, hay un ambiente tan agradable ahí que podíamos haber estado todo el día. Fuimos a comer a un food truck que tienen en una plaza. Nos atendieron súper bien y todos fueron muy amables con nosotras.

The place is absolutely beautiful; there’s such a lovely atmosphere there that we could have stayed all day. We went to eat at a food truck they have in a square. We were looked after really well and everyone was very kind to us.

Honestamente no pensé llenarme tanto, pensé que sería algo más ligero. Pero lo cierto es que ambas quedamos muy felices y satisfechas. Bien dicen por ahí: "barriga llena, corazón contento".
Para iniciar pedimos un entrante para compartir, unas croquetas de la casa. Estaban ricas, calentitas y crujientes. Nos encantaron demasiado. Para servirlas las acompañaron en el plato con mayonesa y verduras de estación. Muy rico todo. Uno se queda con ganas de más.

Honestly, I didn’t think I’d get so full; I thought it would be something lighter. But the truth is that we were both very happy and satisfied. As they say: “a full belly, a happy heart”.
To start with, we ordered a starter to share: the house croquettes. They were delicious, warm and crispy. We absolutely loved them. They were served on a plate with mayonnaise and seasonal vegetables. Everything was delicious. It left us wanting more.

Mi amiga pidió un pan con hamburguesa de carne de res. No me alcanzan las palabras para describir lo delicioso que estaba, pues no pude evitar darle una probadita. Para acompañar su hamburguesa le sirvieron papas fritas, exquisitas igualmente.

My friend ordered a beef burger. I can’t find the words to describe how delicious it was, as I couldn’t resist having a little taste. Her burger was served with chips, which were equally delicious.

Por mi parte yo pedí algo que hace tiempo tenía ganas de degustar: sándwich criollo con papas fritas. Desde que me lo colocaron en la mesa sentí una mezcla de aromas muy agradables. No me cabe duda de que lo prepararon con mucho amor. Porque el sabor superó todas mis expectativas. Muy recomendable.

For my part, I ordered something I’d been wanting to try for ages: a Creole sandwich with chips. From the moment they placed it on the table, I was hit by a delightful mix of aromas. I have no doubt they prepared it with a lot of love, because the flavour exceeded all my expectations. Highly recommended.

Para beber pedimos malta Bucanero que a las dos nos encanta. Fue un menú de oro, pero aún faltaba el postre. También pedimos unos dulces, el de mi amiga era de sabor kiwi, no me llegó a gustar del todo, a ella sí. El mío era de chocolate, mi sabor preferido, también muy rico.

To drink, we ordered Bucanero malt, which we both love. It was a fantastic meal, but dessert was still to come. We also ordered some sweets; my friend’s was kiwi-flavoured – I didn’t really like it, but she did. Mine was chocolate, my favourite flavour, and it was delicious too.

Para sellar este momento hermoso me pedí un café cortado. Qué dichosa me sentí habiendo comido tan rico y en tan buena compañía. Una salida como esta es algo complicado de hacer frecuentemente para una persona de ingresos medios como nosotras. To round off this lovely moment, I ordered a café cortado. I felt so happy to have had such a lovely meal in such good company. An outing like this is a bit tricky to do often for people on an average income like us. However, it’s an experience I’d 100 per cent recommend doing every now and then. I hope you enjoyed the post.
