Observa, Piensa y Escribe: 👩‍🍳👩‍🍳 Los Tequeños de mi Hija 👧👧

Once, my youngest daughter wanted to get into the kitchen to learn to cook on her own. She was tired of helping me set the table and pour the juice. As a mother, I worry that she might hurt herself using a knife to chop ingredients, so I gave her simpler tasks that didn't involve utensils that shouldn't be used by children.

Una vez mi hija menor quería meterse en la cocina para aprender a cocinar ella sola sin ayuda de nadie. Ella estaba cansada de tanto ayudarme a ordenar los platos en la mesa y servir el jugo. Como madre, me preocupo que se haga daño al usar un cuchillo para picar los aliños, y por eso le daba tareas más sencillas que estuvieran alejadas de estos utensilios que no deben usarse por niños.

But she kept insisting: Mom, Mom, I want to cook something tasty for my brothers that isn't sweet. I, for my part, didn't know what to make her cook because her attitude took me by surprise. In the past, she has helped me make cakes or cupcakes, and also cookies, but this time she wanted something more difficult.

So I started researching online to see what dish she could easily help me make, and that's when my mom brought me a tray of tequeños one Sunday morning after mass. That's when the great idea hit me.

Entonces me puse a investigar en internet para ver qué platillo ella podría ayudarme a hacer sin problemas y fue cuando mi mamá me trajo una bandeja de tequeños un domingo en la mañana después de misa. Allí fue que me llegó la gran idea.

I showed her that the oil should be heated first and that she should only drop the tequeños in along the edge of the pan to avoid splashing and accidents. She was so happy frying her tequeños, and what made me laugh the most was that when some were ready, she would take one with a napkin and start eating it while watching the rest cook.

Le enseñé que el aceite se debe calentar primero y que sólo debía echar los tequeños por la orilla del sartén para que no salpicara nada y evitar también un accidente. Ella estaba tan feliz friendo sus tequeños y lo que más risa me daba es que cuando salían listos algunos, ella tomaba uno con una servilleta y empezaba a comer mientras veía cómo se cocinaba el resto.

Without me even realizing it, she became an expert. It's incredible to see how much confidence I've instilled in her in everything she does, that from such a young age, she's always looking for ways to push her limits and learn a little more whenever she can.

Sin darme cuenta, se volvió una experta. Es increíble ver cuánta seguridad le he infundido a ella en todo lo que hace que desde tan pequeña busque maneras siempre de superar sus límites y aprender un poco más las veces que pueda.

When she served the tray of tequeños, we realized there were hardly any left, and she admitted she had eaten several while she was cooking them. She told us they were delicious and she couldn't stop tasting them. Finally, she learned to make something else for her siblings, her grandmother, and her mother.

Cuando sirvió la bandeja de los tequeños, nos dimos cuenta de que casi no había y ella admitió que se comió varios mientras los cocinaba, nos dijo que estaban muy ricos y no podía parar de probarlos. Finalmente aprendió a preparar algo más para sus hermanos, su abuela y su mamá.
