Weekly Recap: Building Skatehive Bounties, Harvesting Pears & Beach Chill

It's Saturday, July 5th, 2025, and I had a rough but also super rewarding week! In this post, I’m gonna share some personal stuff I’ve been working on! From building @skatehive to gardening!

Don’t ask me how these two connect... I have no idea either. But I think I’ll manage to talk you through my week in a way that’s fun and worth reading!

Let’s jump in!

Building Skatehive Bounties

Skatehive Bounties is a new feature me and @web-gnar have been working on for the past few weeks, and the goal is simple:
Create engagement and hype around landing new tricks, and reward Skatehive shredders with Hive!

The concept is straightforward and fun:

  • Anyone can create trick-based bounties with Hive rewards
  • Anyone can submit video/photo proof to complete them
  • Users earn Hive by completing bounties

Check it here 👉 https://my.skatehive.app/bounties

Yes, the concept might be simple, but building a secure, user-friendly and robust system takes a ton of work!

Me and @web-gnar have been exchanging ideas non-stop, and after hours of conversations, we’re finally getting close to the first working version.

As of today, users can:

  • Submit/Claim a bounty
  • Submit their entry as comment
  • Share bounty links

There’s still a lot to do like adding a proper “Submit Bounty Entry” form, figuring out how bounty creators will pay winners, and designing how submissions will be displayed, but everything’s coming together nicely.

Bounties will not be available on our current social media app (skatehive.app) because we’re focusing entirely on the upcoming fresh version and we want to launch it as fast as possible!

TL;DR: No more updates to https://www.skatehive.app/
We are currently only developing https://my.skatehive.app/

We expect the migration to happen by September, so stay tuned and let the skate gods bless us with a smooth transition!

Harvesting Crops/Gardening 🍐

Me and @illusivelf are currently spending our summer at the beach house, and we have a huge yard full of all sorts of trees like olives, apples, pears and more, plus plenty of space to create our cute little garden! We moved here just a couple weeks ago and didn't manage to plant our veggies until today.

We didn't plant much cause we're only gonna stay here till September, but we did put down a couple of pepper plants and some cherry tomato trees!

It’s also pear harvesting season and we have a pear tree full of "Pyrus Kontoula", a variety that’s smaller than normal pears, but way more juicy and sweet. I think that tree’s holding over 200kg of fruit, but it’s so huge, like 6 meters tall, there's no way we can collect it all haha.

We picked the pears we could reach by hand, and we plan to eat some and gift the rest to family and friends. No one can eat that much pear anyway lol! We must’ve gotten around 20–30kg of pears in those two baskets. Nature’s awesome!

Beach Chill 🌊

Living in a beach house has both pros and cons, but the pros definitely outnumber the cons haha.
There’s no better feeling than waking up in the morning, hitting the chilly Ionian Sea for a half-hour swim, and then starting your work day. But maintaining balance is tricky.

Having spent more than 3 summers here working remotely, I’ve learned that you have to control the urge to just spend the day chilling at the beach, drinking cold ones by noon, etc. You gotta remind yourself you’re NOT on vacation but you're just living near the sea.

It took me a solid 10 days to find that balance. But I really worked hard this week, even though I was swimming first thing in the morning every single day. Wake up, swim and build from Monday to Friday, then have tons of fun on weekends.

And today is Saturday!

It’s noon here in Greece, and I’ve already enjoyed a couple cold ones at a friend’s beach bar.
Life’s good when you know what you love most.

Bottom Line

Work/life balance is important, and the more temptations we have in our daily lives, the harder it gets! Even though most people wish they had all their problems solved so they could do nothing, I honestly think that’s one of the worst things you can do to yourself.

Find ways to channel your passion and creativity, then work hard to turn that into your job.
Working on things you love never feels like a normal job anyway.
