How Was Hive Blockchain Created?
When did you join hive? If you created an account after March 2020, chances are that you do not know much about the creation of Hive.
Hive was born (or shall I say forked) in May 2020. But it is not as young as you may think. Its blockchain is actually a lot older, as a matter of fact since 2016.
In this post I will share some of the facts that led to the creation of hive, please feel free to make any additions below or post any articles - posts that you feel would complement the information shared here. The goal is to provide a basic understanding to the users who do not know the history of hive, and to motivate them to research more about blockchain, decentralization etc.
Some would characterize Hive as the result of a blockchain rebellion
Hive blockchain did not just launch, did not just fork, it was the forged and strong response of the community when they felt centralization coming too quickly.
Hive’s roots go back to Steem, a blockchain created in 2016 to power decentralized social media. The blockchain was created by Steemit Inc., and was considered revolutionary - as it introduced a way for users to earn crypto rewards in its native currency, for content creation.
It was early 2020, when Justin Sun acquired Steemit. Inc not the blockchain, but the company behind steem's development
The community feared that by using the pre-mined extra $steem, the new authority would try to take control of the top witnesses (block validators)
Guess what. The fears were shortly afterwards confirmed, when there was an effort to take over Steems governance - In response, developers and community members decided to create Hive. Their priority was the control of community and not a centralized authority. The controversial (ninja - premined stake) was excluded and all existing members would receive their $steem balance in $hive.
I do not remember all details but I remember the feeling of that time.
It felt as if we were all part of something really important! Community could get together and create something new - which at the time, noone knew if it would work out well or not. Well, apparently it worked out well and much better than some expected (which of course most of us already knew)
Since then, every 20th of March - Hive Fork Day is celebrated!
I will post below the price as taken by coinmarketcap
I have not been monitoring what is going on over at the other blockchain, but I dont think that there is much development.

I think you may recognize which one is hive..
This is maybe a typical post that is being rewarded by the community over at steemit
I am included some more posts for you to check out if you want to dive more into the hard fork that happened in March 2020.
If you experienced it, it would be interesting to know more about your point of view, or feel free to post any link below!
Thank you for reading and... if you are new here, tell me..
Did you know the story of Hive before you decided to join?
Now that you do know, does it change your feelings and idea about this blockchain?

I didn’t know the story of Hive but I’m glad you shared it with us
I joined in August 2021, and I have been stumbling upon comments from time to time about what happened in the past.
I am an old member and used to work on Steemit. This happened right in front of me and we got hive based on the steem coins we had.
