The Subject I Loved the Most: Agricultural Science.

Back then, in school, I had a couple of subjects I liked, but if I’m being honest, there was one that always stood out—Agricultural Science. It was that one class I always looked forward to, no matter how tired or distracted I was. Even if I wasn’t doing so well in other subjects, I always made sure I gave agriculture my best. It was a subject i had deep love for.

Right from junior secondary school, I found myself enjoying everything about agriculture. It was like I had this natural connection to it. While some students just saw it as a subject they had to pass, I saw it as something that spoke directly to my interests. As I moved into senior secondary school, that love only grew stronger. In fact, that was what influenced my decision to go deeper into the science aspect and eventually choose agriculture as my course of study at the university.

What really made agricultural science special for me were the practicals. I still remember the excitement of going to the school farm, getting our hands dirty, planting different crops, and coming back weeks later to see how much they’d grown. There’s a unique kind of satisfaction that comes from watching something you planted with your own hands sprout and mature. We didn’t just stop at crops—we reared animals too. That experience gave me a real-life understanding of how farming works, and it never felt like a burden. For me, it was pure joy.

I can still remember how some of my classmates would tease us, calling us “agbe,” which means “farmer” in Yoruba. To them, it was something to joke about or laugh at. But to me, it was something to be proud of. I never felt insulted or embarrassed by the name because, truth be told, I loved what I was doing. In fact, that name made me feel more connected to the passion I was already growing inside of me. Farming wasn’t something I saw as dirty or backward—it was something I saw as meaningful and necessary.

Fast forward to today, I’m currently studying agriculture in the university—specifically, animal science. That passion that started back in secondary school didn’t fade; it only got stronger. Every day, I learn something new about livestock, animal nutrition, breeding, and farm management. I still find myself excited about things other people might find boring or too stressful. Whether it's cleaning out pens, analyzing feed compositions, or even writing reports, I still do it all with the same enthusiasm I had back in school.

In fact, i still refer back to some of the things i was taught in secondary school to my present day life up to even my exams, so i must say choosing to study agriculture in secondary school was the right choice. It helped me discover my passion early and shaped the path I’m walking on today. And honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Thanks for reading.

Agriculture is really a nice subject which I also love but my love for CRS can't be measured. During my secondary school days instead of doing Agriculture we are doing Aminal Husbandry which also related to Agriculture and we always have the subject every Wednesday and we also have a farm for it which we always plant different types of crops, such as Vegetables, Corn, etc. I will say Animal Husbandry is among my favourite subject in school but CRS beat them all.
