Starting Over at 6 or Starting Strong at 21?

Hello everyone!

Today, the #hivereachout community told us to write on this topic.

If you were given a clean slate with two options—to either restart your life at age six with all the knowledge you have now or take twenty million dollars in cash—what would you choose?

Honestly, I had to sit with this question for a while. It really made me think deeply because both options are powerful in their own way. But after weighing everything carefully, I know what I would choose.

Right now, I’m 21 years old, which means I still have a lot of time ahead of me. Life is just beginning in many ways. I have dreams, goals, and things I would want to achieve. And so, for me, taking twenty million dollars in cash right now is the better option.

With that kind of money,i can fulfil a lot of the dreams that seem far away at the moment. Aside from that, I could finally pay my school fees without stress—I still have one more year left in university. That alone would be a huge relief, not just for me but especially for my mum. She wouldn’t have to worry or stress about how she’s going to raise the money. I know how much it weighs on her when things are tough financially, and it would feel good to be able to take that burden off her shoulders.

Beyond school, twenty million dollars gives me the opportunity to invest wisely, support my family, start businesses, and even give back to people around me. I wouldn’t waste it—I would make every dollar count. And the truth is, even without restarting life, I’ve gained some life experience already. I’ve made mistakes, yes, but I’ve also learned from them. I believe I can still grow, develop, and become successful with what I already know.

Now, the other option—going back to age six with all the knowledge I have now—sounds tempting too. There’s a part of me that knows I could avoid a lot of mistakes, make better decisions earlier, and even position myself for success at a younger age. But at the same time, I’d have to go through childhood all over again. That’s years of schooling, being treated like a kid even when I have the knowledge of an adult, and facing situations where people wouldn’t even take me seriously. That doesn’t sound fun to me.

Also, life isn’t predictable. What if I never get the chance to make that kind of money in that second life? Or worse, what if I end up facing a whole new set of problems I never saw coming? These are the kinds of things I had to think seriously about because, at the end of the day, no one can truly predict what life will throw at them.

So, with everything considered, I would definitely pick the twenty million dollars now. I’d use it to change my life, support the people I love, and build a future that I can truly be proud of—all while continuing to learn and grow as I go.

Thanks for reading.

You're right, if I'm the one I will also pocket the twenty million because there are lot of things I want to do but due to no money I'm unable to do it. Also, I love how you said if you have the money you will lift up your mom burden by paying your school fees, which shows how responsible you are.

Money seemed to be the best option, you have pointed out quit a lot of convincing points. I can't start afresh and go over all the hard times I had passed already. What if you reach maturity full of knowledge without any fault and then meet life and it has no opportunity for you? 😂

Thanks for sharing

That is actually the point no one can predict what would happen.

That money is a huge one that no one should spend recklessly or lavishly but to make good use of it. Going back to that age, though is good and tempting, but what is the assurance you'd make such money just like you said? Experiences and lessons we've acquired aren't something we can just throw away like that.
