Passion vs. Reality: Why Making a Living Comes First for me.

This is honestly not an easy question to answer, because both following your passion and making a living are important in their own ways. But if I have to speak based on the reality I’m currently facing, I would say that making a living is more important right now—especially considering the kind of environment we live in.

Don’t get me wrong, I strongly believe that following your passion is a beautiful thing. There’s a certain joy and fulfillment that comes with waking up every day to do something you truly love. It gives life more meaning, and it keeps you motivated, even on tough days. However, passion alone cannot pay bills. Passion can’t feed you. It can’t buy you food, clothes, or even help you support your family—at least not immediately.

Personally, I’m currently studying Animal Science at the university, and I can say I’m genuinely passionate about it. I enjoy learning about animals, their behaviors, their health, and how to take care of them. It’s something that interests me deeply. But at the same time, I can’t ignore the fact that the job market is tough, and the opportunities in my field might not be enough to give me the kind of financial stability I desire. So if I graduate and realize that I could earn more money and live a better life by learning something like graphic design, for instance, I would not hesitate to go for it—even though it's not something I’m passionate about.

That’s the reality many of us face today. Sometimes, you need to pick survival first. The world is not so kind to people who only want to chase dreams without being financially wise. And as a man, especially, the pressure is even higher. Society expects us to provide, to protect, and to be financially stable. You can’t do all that by chasing passion alone, especially when that passion isn’t bringing in any money.

That said, I believe there’s a way to balance both. You can find a job or learn a skill that helps you make a decent living, and still make time to grow your passion on the side. Who knows? That passion might eventually become something you can live off. But until then, bills don’t wait. Responsibilities don’t pause. Life keeps moving.

Also, I believe that just because something isn't your passion doesn’t mean you won’t grow to enjoy it. If you give your best to a job or skill and keep an open mind, you might find fulfillment in it with time. Passion can sometimes be developed. It’s not always something you’re born with—it can also grow from consistency and dedication.

In conclusion, while passion is important and should not be ignored, making a living is the priority right now, especially with how things are going in our society. Passion can come later, or it can grow from whatever work we find ourselves doing. At the end of the day, what truly matters is being able to live a comfortable life and take care of those who depend on you. That’s why, at this point in my life, I choose making a living over following my passion.
