My digital pet peeves and how i deal with most of them.
When it comes to social media and digital life in general, I have quite a number of things that annoy me. Some are just minor inconveniences, while others genuinely frustrate me to the point where I have to take action. The first thing on my list is constant notifications. I seriously hate when I get online, and the next thing I see is a flood of notifications hitting my phone. This is especially bad with group chats. Sometimes, these notifications pile up so much that they even slow down my phone, and that’s just annoying.
I remember being in some really active group chats where people would drop messages back-to-back, and before I knew it, I had over 200 unread messages. It got to the point where I started leaving some of these groups because I just couldn’t keep up. For the ones I couldn’t leave, I had to archive them to keep my sanity intact. Right now, I’ve taken things a step further by turning off most of my notifications from apps like Twitter, WhatsApp, and Snapchat. The only time I get to see messages is when I intentionally open these apps. Honestly, this has made my digital life much simpler. I don’t feel overwhelmed anymore, and I can actually go hours without checking my phone, which is something I struggled with before.
Another thing that really gets to me is when someone ghosts me or leaves me on read. This one is personal because it actually hurts. I get that we all have things to do, and sometimes we may not be in the mood to reply to messages, but let’s be real—everyone is always with their phone in this day and age. It’s not like we’re still in the early 2000s when people only checked their phones once in a while. If I send a message and a whole 24 hours pass without a response, I take it personally. To me, it just means the person doesn’t care enough to reply, and if that’s the case, there’s no need for us to be communicating in the first place.
I don’t waste my time double-texting people or forcing conversations. If I see that you’re ignoring me, I simply remove myself from the situation. I’ve blocked and unfollowed people—even important people —just because of this. Some people might see it as an overreaction, but that’s just how I am. I can’t be putting energy into someone who doesn’t see me as important enough to respond to. It’s not even about expecting an instant reply; I just don’t like being ignored completely.
The last thing that annoys me in my digital life is the constant popping up of ads. This is the one thing that I still haven’t found a solid solution for, and it drives me crazy. I can be peacefully listening to music on Spotify, and then, out of nowhere, an ad just interrupts the vibe. It’s even worse on YouTube when I’m watching something important, and an ad just cuts in. I know that paying for premium is the only real way to escape these ads, but I don’t always have the money for that, so I just have to keep dealing with them.
I honestly wish there was a way to block ads completely without having to pay, but at the same time, I understand that these platforms need to make money. Still, that doesn’t make it any less annoying.
For now, I’ll just keep tolerating it until I can afford to go ad-free. But trust me, the day I get enough money to subscribe to premium on all these apps, I won’t hesitate.
At the end of the day, I guess these little annoyances are just part of using the internet. Some I can control, like notifications and ghosting, while others, like ads, are just things I have to live with for now. But one thing is for sure—I’m always finding ways to make my digital life as stress-free as possible.
Thanks for reading.
