A Chance To Love

Chika was a girl full of passion and unfulfilled dreams. She was usually denied the opportunity to step out and experience what true love looks like.
Maria was Chika's mother, and Okoro was Chika's father.

Being the only child, the mother wouldn't want what she experienced in her relationship with Chika's father to happen to her daughter.

But was she right? Wasn't it a tale of the past?
She would do everything possible to stop Chika from falling in love.

According to her, she was betrayed twice and beaten thrice by Chika's father. Who later abandoned her in search of another woman, even when she was okay with him.

Happiness was far away from her, and all she knew was bitterness and pain which no drugs could cure. The pain remained in her heart till Chika was up to the age of knowing the right and the wrong thing to do.

Chika never wanted to listen to what she was told by her mother. To her, if a chance is given to her, she would show her mother what true love is all about.

Though she was young, she understood what true love meant, and that was why she often pleaded with her mother to give her a chance to love.

To her, love was a beautiful thing, but to her mom it was hell. Never for once was she happy to hear her daughter talk about love.

But Chika meant what she said. She was sent as a gift to relieve her mother from what she believed, and to make her see love as something that cures pain, and not to cause pain.

One fateful Monday, Chika went to the stream to fetch water. Deep inside of her, she was so worried and confused. At some point, she was left in a state of dilemma.

She didn't know who to talk to, nor express her feelings to. When she got to the stream, she saw a handsome young guy who also went there to fetch water.

He was dark in complexion. Chika was consoled that at least she had seen someone to talk to about her predicament.

She walked straight to where he was, she held his hands, looked into his eyes, and asked a question. Have you ever been in love? Ask Chika.

She asked three questions at the same time. The guy was trying to understand where she was coming from. He couldn't leave her alone. He had to stay back and tell her everything she needed to know about love.

Based on what she heard, she asked him if he could be her lover. He accepted and they began their journey.

At first, she was so scared of what her mother would do to her. But she had to summon courage. She went back home and opened up to her mother.

She was pissed up, but she promised her that she would be extremely careful. Chika and her lover were always seen together. They took time to know more about themselves, and they also advise each other.

Their love for each other kept sparkling, and they became the subject of discourse in society. Everyone wanted to experience such a relationship.

Never for once were their voices heard outside. They learn to solve their problems within themselves. Love was the tool they used.

Chika's dream was fully fulfilled because she was finally given a chance to love.
