Solar panels made in space

For decades it seemed inevitable to transport every centimeter of a future solar structure from Earth to space. Now, Dcubed will break that dependency with a system that manufactures panels directly in space, where light is continuous and the absence of atmosphere makes the sun an almost perfect source.

The commercial flight sector is growing rapidly and with it the need to generate energy on a large scale, conventional panels work well, but they carry a hidden cost, their heavy structures require extreme compaction, deployment mechanisms and resistance to brutal vibrations during launch.

Each reinforcement adds mass, takes up volume and subtracts space from the payload, a silent cost that accumulates. ARAQYS tries to reverse that logic, dispenses with rigid panels and replaces everything with an ultra-thin, light and flexible solar blanket. Once the satellite reaches orbit, the membrane is unrolled and a 3D printing system deposits a rigid structure on it.

The intense ultraviolet radiation of the space environment cures the resin almost instantly, solidifying the skeleton that supports the blanket, testing begins with progressive demonstrations, a 60 cm rod still this year, followed by a 1 m version and then a 2 kW operational demonstration planned for 2027.

Technological maturity would open space for broad applications, from power transmission arrays to orbital regulators and processing constellations, for Dcubed it is about advancing a strategic frontier and using these combined technologies in a system that seeks to transform space energy into real infrastructure, capable of keeping up with the pace of the orbital economy.
