You Don't Have To Do A Thing...
I have been having a fun theological conversation with @grandpapulse on X over the past few days. I would have preferred to have it on chain so I could upvote his comments but alas....Hive police!
Anyways, these conversations we have can get heated at times but I do find them very respectful. I have spoken about this before how he is a Catholic and I am as Protestant as it gets. (I need to include @artgirl into these in the future lol)
We disagree on many things but at the end of the day, we believe in Christ and we both serve a risen Savior.
I will admit, I have a lot of trouble with Catholic doctrines simply because there is a whole lot of church tradition mixed into what they believe. Which I can't understand because as a Protestant, my guide book is the bible.
Sure, we learn from history, we learn about traditions....But for me personally, it's the bible first and foremost. If it's not in the bible, I can't really adopt it. So when I have religious discussions with people, that is my measuring stick...Scripture.
A point came up that I wanted to bring up for anyone who is interested in these kind of discussions...
What do believers do with John 14:15.....
Now before anyone starts pointing the finger and scream 'legalism!!!!' let me state this for everyone....
We are saved by grace ALONE!
I do not think we are saved by keeping God's commandments, it's all through faith. And for that, you should read Hebrews 11 to really understand examples of old testament faith.
But Christ challenges us to the core with this statement....If you are My disciple, if you claim to follow me, and if you LOVE me....Keep my commandments!
How does this work without making it a works based request?
The answer is right smack in the middle of Christ's request.
It's love.
We don't keep God's commandments to be saved, we keep them because we are saved. We LOVE what was done for us. We are not worthy of anything, yet here is our Savior, on the cross, dying for our sins.
This gets into Christ's righteousness which I admit, I have had a hard time over the years truly understanding it. But I will attempt to break it down in a few short words...
We don't need to do a thing. Christ did it and paid it all.
That's His righteousness. And we now keep His commandments because we love Him. ot because we have to. Not because it's forced. But because out of love....We obey!
It's some next level theological science if you ask me. And sometimes it's hard to put into words exactly how amazing this gift is.
Christ....Our righteousness!

Facts!!
Sooo should I answer the points you raised here? Haha. Looks like you really need to look into learning abt the Catechism of the Catholic Church to find some of the answers. You have good points on there and of course you can look into Catholicism some more to find out what's different. It's too long to get into in just one go.
Don't worry, there are many who are doing what you're doing. So many testimonials on YT on converting from Protestantism to Catholicism. Not sure if you're on that path but I'm sure your daily prayers will lead you where you will be. 🙏
But since you're Bible based, this reminds me of what I wrote last year... https://ecency.com/hive-114345/@artgirl/schisms-in-catholicism-evidence-of?referral=artgirl
Nah I'm most definitely a Protestant. Catholic church has way too much history of persecution for my liking. Not saying some protestant churches dont have issues, but push comes to shove, I base my faith on the bible alone.
Ah ok, now I know. 😁
I think it's important to realize that what we do comes from love, not just a sense of duty.
Agreed!
I am assuming that your church has some written guidelines apart fro the Bible. If it does, why do you follow them if you dismiss writings like the Dadiche? Are SDA founder's books and visions not considered important in the foundation of your church? I would assume they are. If they are important why is not Justin Martyr's, Saint John's, Polycarp's and many othrrs writings not even worth considering?
Oh for sure, church manuals etc...However if it goes against scripture, we put scripture above any teachings of man. Whether or not it's written by an SDA or not :)
Not all was canonized. They practiced for 1500 years before your Bible existed. You are literally not using the same Bible the Christian churches used. Even the Catholic Bible is short a few books compared to other early churches.
Oh I hear ya on that. This is where I think faith plays a big role. Hebrews 11:1 for me. I faithfully believe, the version I'm reading right now is as well preserved as possible.
God made sure His word would last. I have done my homework, and faithfully I believe what I'm reading is as close to the original manuscripts as possible.
If you want to read and understand the Word of God (Jesus) you will need to read the original Aramaic.
That's fine, it has nothing to do with salvation though.
The Aramaic / Hebrew word Yeshua literally means Salvation.
Fantastic.
I still dont understnad how I don't believe in Jesus?
You seem unable to say that “Jesus is God”
Where did you get that assumption?
Christ is King.
Jesus is God.
My Lord and Savior.
You think I'm ashamed of the gospel or something?
Most Christian’s are unable to say “Jesus is God, Creator of the Universe and all that exists”
It is Jesus speaking in Genesis 1
Well aware of that lol
You just made some crazy assumptions.
Catholic doctrines are quite different. I’ve been to their churches several times but truth be told, they have interesting services even though it’s different from the regular one I do in my church
There are some concepts which I do not understand. One of them is bowing for Mary
Isn’t it weird?
Yeah the Mary worship is super odd.
I am Catholic.
Catholics do not worship Mary.
Jesus is God.
Mary is the Mother of Jesus.
Mary is the Mother of God.
But Catholics only Worship the One and Only True God …
His Name is Jesus …
Yeshu in Aramaic and Hebrew.
If you want to understand the Word of God (Jesus) you need to learn and read Aramaic the language spoken by Jesus (God)
You will never understand a single word of Jesus (God) teaching unless you learn the Aramaic Aleph-Bet …
You venerate her. Which puts her in the place of Christ.
Our intercessor is Christ and Christ alone.
Nope.
Jesus is God.
There is nothing else needed.
Only Jesus.
Catholics are the only ones I know that believe that Jesus is God.
The Creator of the Universe.
Jesus is The one and Only God who created everything.
Yeah that's not true at all.
I'm not Catholic, I believe in Christ.
You believe that Jesus is God ?
What do you mean by Christ ?
Messiah ? Or God ?
You are unable to say “Jesus is God”
Jesus Christ.
Of course Jesus is God. What are we even doing here?
Indeed!
Jesus is Lord. Fully God and fully man, fulfillment of the law and the prophets. My Catholic friends agree with my Baptist profession that Jesus is our Saviour. What we believe about Christ is the essential thing. We can discuss everything elsewith that foundational Truth coming first. !BBH
