Why I'm Anti-Trinitarian!
This is going to be an interesting blog post, and I planned it to be such....I hope you read through it, and see where my faith lies and my great hope is found.
Let me put this out there first and foremost....
I am a protestant Christian.
And that doesn't mean much these days it seems because...There isn't much protesting going on. There's hype and hoopla, and a whole lot of ear service....Yet, the God of Scripture rarely had His character highlighted.
And this is what I'm about to dive into it....
So like I said...I'm still protesting.
And I protest directly, the Roman Catholic Church System!
Please note....I did not say Roman Catholics.
I said the system that over a billion people follow on planet earth. And there are about 95 reasons why, but that's a different blog post all together.
However there are things that the Roman Church system has brought into mainstream Christianity that I've always had some issues with.
When people talk about 'creeds and confessions', I get a super weird feeling in my gut....
There's countless doctrines that have no backing by Scripture, only tradition. Especially when we are told to confess sins to priests...
And when people bring up the word 'Trinity', I get another SUPER weird feeling in my gut!
If you read this far you are probably screaming...
HERETIC!
Not so fast :)
Here's what I believe...
God is One (Deuteronomy 6:4)
There are Three distinct Persons in the Godhead, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:16-17, John 14:16-17, 2 Corinthians 13:14, Genesis 1:26)
Each is fully God (John 1:1, Acts 5:3-4)
They are in complete harmony (John 10:30, Ephesians 4:4-6)
After screaming heretic, now you are scratching your head going...Wait, that's the doctrine of the Trinity.
Kinda sorta...
You see, the word 'Trinity' never shows up in Scripture. And while some that do not believe in the three persons of the Godhead may claim that the 'Trinity' was only added to beliefs in the council of Nicaea, it's clear from Scripture.
God is Three Persons, yet One God.
Mind blowing, doesn't make sense, I get it...
The beautiful thing about God is that He calls us to ask questions (Isaiah 1:18) but doesn't reveal everything to us. After all, we'll have an eternity to figure it all out.
But from Genesis to Revelation, the Godhead is clearly within Scripture.
And if you haven't picked up on it yet....I cringe at the word 'Trinity' and love the word 'Godhead'. Because that is in Scripture, and that is the character of God.
A loving God.
A caring God.
A long suffering God.
Who cannot be explained because if He could...He wouldn't be God right?
And my faith has gone from boxing and wrestling with my Creator (think of Jacob lol) to accepting that my faith only needs to be the size of a mustard seed. And Jesus will do the rest for me....
So I apologize for the click bait title of the blog post, because I fully believe in the 3 person Godhead. And it might just be semantics, but I want to always remember that everything I need for salvation is revealed in His Word.
Everything else that is added by man....I don't need it.

It really is just semantics. In practice, you believe in the trinity, even if you refuse to call it that.
There are tons of technical terms in theology that aren't in the bible. Trinity is something a theology nerd came up with. You don't toss out bible study books just because they use big fancy words that aren't in the bible. It's like those $10 words that people like to use like paradigm, disruptive, and holistic.
Catholics believe in the trinity concept itself, not the word trinity. We could call it Roger, if you like. So long as we all agree that Roger defines the three persons that constitute the One God. I think the word trinity means more to non-catholics than it means to catholics.
It's strange, I've had multiple videos on Roger pop up on my feed, recently. I can understand why Roger came about. It doesn't do to always have to explain the whole Father, Son, and Holy Spirit concept every time you make a reference. It's just easier to say Roger.
In my doctrinal experience, Roger has always been a shorthand way of referring to God in His three persons. But it isn't any brand new teaching that is different than the Godhead. We also use the word Godhead. Personally, I don't use Godhead as it always conjures up a mental image of a big floating head, which is distracting in a serious conversation.
ha ha ha ha I never thought of it that way...A big floating head lol
And yeah, the doctrine is what I believe, the words are just words. I just try to stick to the bible and what it states. And the doctrine is there, regardless if the word is or not.
A stretch at best I'd say, but I enjoy the discourse. We could say the same thing about the word "Bible". It never appears in the biblical text. It was derived from the Greek phrase ta biblia, which translates to "the books". Shrug, I don't get wrapped up in the semantics. Life is too short.
Life is short, but eternity is forever ;)

Yeah man, it's nickel and dime kind of stuff...I just thought it would be a fun little 'shock and awe' title for the blog. The doctrine, I'm 100% behind.
