What's Your Favorite Verse?

"I have a favorite verse in the bible...."

"Let me guess, it's John 3:16?"

"Not at all, mine has always been Proverbs 16:18!"

"Ahhhh you surprised me! Mine has always been John 14:1-3..."

This was an actual back and forth that my wife and I had years ago when we first met each other. I wasn't even a Christian then, so when she said John 14 and then a bunch of verses....I had to go and look them up real quick.

But talk about promise! What an amazing start to one of the best chapters in the book of John! In today's #bible911 post, we'll dig into a theological feast in 31 simple chapters, but has so much profound impact in believers around the world.

The theme for John 14 on our little graphic that we will be using is 'upset'. And I can see how this can really help those of us dealing with upsetting situations in live. I mean, just look at the beginning of this chapter...The great hope! The promise of all promises that Christ will return and take us with Him. It's 100% comfort to all in the faith and a great primer to see what else we unlock.

While I'm not going to go over every single verse in this chapter, I do want to highlight literally the verses...I have highlighted lol John 14 is jam packed and there is so much wealth in this chapter that it's hard to only discuss certain verses...

But the next one that pops is the famous...

JOHN-CHAPTER-14-KJV-01-20-2026_10_09_PM.png

The way, the truth and the life! Christ is the only way to get to the Father. For those of us in the faith, once again...It's hard to be upset when you have Christ in your corner.

We have to remember that the whole book of God speaks on the deity of Christ and we see this in the next few verses...But one of my all time favorite bible verses that most Christians seem to have a big issue with is...Verse 15.

JOHN-CHAPTER-14-KJV-01-20-2026_10_11_PM.png

Keep my commandments. This is Christ being explicit that if we say that we love Him, we should keep His commandments. All of them. Including that 4th one that begins with the word 'Rememeber'...But we'll save that one for another day ;)

And now for the can of worms...

Let me state that I am a Trinitarian. And while I really don't like the word 'trinity' (I use the term Godhead), I do believe in the triune God. One God, three distinct persons.

John 14 verse 16 and 26 really highlight the third person of the Godhead - The Holy Spirit.

And look what Christ calls Him...

The Comforter.

This is so powerful because remember, the theme of our graphic above has to do with being upset and digging into the bible for some peace. Nothing and I mean nothing compares to the comfort that comes from the Holy Spirit. He can literally change your life!

And not only that, we see here in verse 26....

JOHN-CHAPTER-14-KJV-01-20-2026_10_16_PM.png

The Holy Spirit does His work in teaching and bringing things to remembrance. How 'comforting' is that? Our Helper because our greatest teacher. And that's a promise, right from the lips of Christ Himself.

When push comes to shove, I will always say that the book of John is my favorite of the 4 gospels. And chapter 14 really hammers home some great verses and theology for people of faith.

And if you give it all to Him, after reading this chapter you will be hard pressed to be upset anymore!

Mine is Ecclesiastes 2:25. The English rendering is different from the first time I read this verse in our language. Since then, it stuck:

For without Him, no one can find enjoyment.
