The Spirit Is Willing But....(there always seems to be a but.)
Like you guys may (or may not) know, I'm on the tail end of my trip for the summer. And during the past few weeks, it's been church and nothing but church for this guy.
I always look forward to these trips because unlike most in my faith, camp meetings are new to me. I was not brought up in church and the entire culture of camp meetings for my church is deep rooted in faith, family and fun.
This is my third trip to the summer camp for work, and while it is 'for work', each time before this one, always gave me a fantastic feeling. A closer relationship to not only my Lord & Savior, but also my church brethren.
This summer...Not so much.
And I don't want to play the pitty party here, but sitting in the truck stop on the way home, I've been trying to figure out why this trip...Didn't 'do it' for my spiritual walk.
I should make no excuse though!
I was working for God, and was around believers for almost two weeks. Signing, praising and worshipping together.
But this summer, was rough. We're currently in a heat wave, and the entire prairies have been dealing with floods, rain and a bunch of nasty tornadoes.
When I'm in camp, I stay in my truck. As it's my comfort zone, and I get some of the best time with God there. Reading lots, praying and watching some great sermons.
My issue this year was that as hot and sticky as it was, the air conditioning inside my truck never worked. So instead of being filled with joy and praising God...I found myself complaining to anyone that would listen, how sticky, sweaty and nasty the weather was.
The spirit is willing but wow...Is my flesh ever weak.
Re-read that and look at the "i" problems I just went over. I wasn't comfortable. I was sweaty. I was hot. I was sticky. I, I , I....
Oh wretched man that I am. Paul was onto something...
Instead of celebrating my time with fellow believers, and praising God for blessing me with this incredible job that allows me to attend these events each year...I was sitting and sulking about how uncomfortable I was.
Gee, I wonder if the apostles where ever uncomfortable?
Now I'm not comparing myself to them, but we Christians seem to forget, this life isn't supposed to be easy. It's actually supposed to be uncomfortable.
I need to give my faith a bit 'self check' over the next few days, because this isn't the spirit of someone who should be screaming from the mountain tops about how blessed he is...Instead, I developed the spirit of complaining.
Lord forgive me for forgetting how amazing You are, and how amazing Your church can be. Create a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me.
