The Richest Man....In Babylon?

It's interesting that the next two studies in our #bible911 series are covering two topics that hit home...
The last topic not so much, but situations have me second guessing myself. But this one day, oh boy....
We're taking a look at Psalm 37 and it's topic.....Struggling financially.
Which I'm pretty sure, the bulk of peopl reading this can relate to in one way or another...

This is a pretty big chapter in Scripture and there is quite a lot to unpack....40 verses of it :)
But I'm going to highlight some verses that really hammer home the issue that a lot of us face in every day lives when it comes to finances...

I guess it's time for a bit of backstory and if you have followed my journey here on chain, you'll know I'm still in the process of rebuilding my life. I was an entrepreneur for over 20 years, and built quite a few successful online businesses. One day, I pretty much lost it all. And I've been in the process of rebuilding my life since....Oh and during that time, I've had 2 young sons born...So yeah, it's been a struggle.
Just before things crashed and burned though, I was baptized.
Who knew......lol Well God knew and He pretty much humbled me so I could focus on what matters most.
Not money. Not success. Not the world....But right there in verse 18....
"....And their inheritance shall be for ever."
This reminds me of Matthew 6:33 where Christ tells us to seek first the kingdom of God. That's what matters. It's funny that when you need God the most, it's when He shows up in the most unexpected places and that's my story for sure. I was the 'king of the world' or so I thought. My happiness was my bank account or...So I thought. And when God humbled me, He made me look at what was most important in our lives.
A relationship with Him. And oh by the way, you have a brand new family to guide towards God as well.....No pressure ;)

Oh the sweet comfort of Scripture! Look at verse 24 :)
When I write these studies of sorts, all I can ever share is my testimony. I'm sure lots of people can relate but when I'm reading God's word I'm always trying to see how this can talk to me directly. And this verse really does....
I fell. In fact, all of humanity fell for that matter. But personally and professionally, I REALLY fell. But the promise is that I'm not going to remain fallen. Which is a two fold blessing for me because first....I have God now in my life, so everything is a blessing! And second, the redeemed will be with Him forever. That great hope, the great promise.
So all I can say is....Being broke sucks lol Having everything taken from you in a heartbeat is crippling. Especially when you are middle aged. But there are reasons and hidden blessings in all of it. The best news, the GOOD news is that we have a Saviour. And He wants to spend eternity with us.
And when you break that all down....It makes us the richest people on the planet!
P.S. The title of this blog post is actually one of the most recommended book titles in the personal development and success circles. I read it at the height of my worldly success. Thought it would be an interesting twist to the blog post.
