The Curious Case Of...Content!
I had an interesting experience today with a really good friend of mine off chain.
He's a big political guy. Well not so much political, much more.....Conspiracy theorist / truther....Or whatever the label is these day, I can't keep up.
He's a guy who sees big problems in the world and thinks people should know about the evils in society. And whether I agree with him or not, isn't the point of this post.
I saw him, draft pretty much his magnum opus of content and posted it right smack dab in the middle of.....Facebook.
O.K., that was my first observation about said piece of content. I immediately thought, why would you want to post such a well written piece on a platform that has never been known for long form content.
And second, I kept saying to myself....This should have been posted on this blockchain.
Again....Whether or not I agree with him, isn't the point. It brings up my belief that this blockchain is superior on many fronts but the big reason is because....
It's a home for long form.
It's a home for short form.
It's a home for any kind of content you wish to produce!
See, let's be honest....The DNA and the origin story of this blockchain was always long form. Since it's inception, long form has had a thriving home here. Now one would argue, we've had the problem of too many content creators and not enough content consumers and I would agree with that.
But push comes to shove, this blockchain is a fantastic place to write blogs and journal your thoughts forever and ever. Censorship resistant, all that jazz...It's great!
Ahhh but here's the other side of the coin, which personally I have been preaching from the mountain top for years now...
The 'internet' doesn't thrive in long form content when it comes to user adoption. Let's be brutally honest again, most people like bite sized pieces of content, short videos, blurbs, memes, quotes....
Tiktok is much more popular than Medium if you want to go 2.0 on the example!
But here's the opportunity on this blockchain...
We can cater to all markets when it comes to content creating and consuming.
You can write your blogs!
You can produce your videos!
You can post a meme or two!
It's whatever your heart desires and the added benefit, like I mentioned is....All the wonderful features of #web3
So I think we are positioned perfectly when it comes to the creator side of things....But the problem will arise, and that comes to consuming. How do we make this blockchain a place / community that people want to hang out in, spend their time on, and get their friends to do the same?
Million dollar question....And I've been looking for answers since 2017 lol
Got any solutions?

I do all those except for videos. I regularly write long form posts and microblog on inleo and snaps, share memes, AI arts.

I need to get back to producing videos...I miss it.
Do you have a youtube channel? I'll subscribe 😀

an old one that I did bible reviews on but havent uploaded anything for over a yearnow.
Tiktok is much more popular as producing short simple-stupid things is easier than writing a content. Unfortunately, people firstly prefer to consume them.
Yup, people have the attention span of goldfish!
It's tough but I also agree that Facebook probably wasn't the place to post long form content. Hive is better in that regards but it's also tough to get people to accept Hive when it doesn't have as many active users.
That's the double edged sword....Fantastic place for long form content, not a lot of adoption tho.
I have made some attempts in getting a whole interest group to get on Hive.
I am still working on that... right now, myself and three other accounts are the start of it... I will keep chipping away until the dam wall bursts...

Thanks!
I literally try that every day to bring people here...It's a hard sell!
I know what you mean... in a sense... despite the massive amount of advantages with using Hive, the thing that has everyone stuck where they are is the convenience and the number of people that they know.
So I am slowly trying to get people to at least open an account and have a username and keys so that, should they wish to use the app, they already have access.
It is possible to onboard more people if a person was in charge of some sort of event and registration and interaction on Hive was necessary to take part in the event.
Perhaps the new attitude of the USA government toward freedom and crypto will help a little? Hope springs eternal. !BBH
i am not a big government guy, i think they are all rotten lol
Yes, but it could be worse. Previous admin wanted to regulate/control/kill everything. !BBH
I prefer Hive to any of our social network because there are so many things to learn from this place. The media is so full of irrelevant things these days but when we come here every day, we still see things that we can learn from.
it really is a better place to hang out, a lot less drama!
Hive in some ways is smaller than I thought, or I've parsed enough of it where I've started to get a better network map.
