The Big Picture From A Small Picture

I had another one of those 'Jongo moments' today while working a few hours away from home...

As a truck driver, I'm on the road quite a bit. Which means, my family is at home without me when I'm on the road. And while I'm not on the road as much as other truck drivers, it's still time away from loved ones.

Because of that, and other reasons which I'm sure you will gather, we have certain security systems in place. A 90 lbs Rottweiler being the first :) But also cameras around the home. And of course, a doorbell camera...Which captured something today, not out of the ordinary, in fact, it was quite normal....

Anyways let me share the picture here and then dive into what this meant to me...

It was obviously, a beautiful day out! The sun is shinning and it's almost 4pm. And right on schedule, my wife, my youngest and my middle child are all lined up, opening up the front door.

Again, this is exactly what is supposed to happen every single day when she gets the kids from school.

And now time for my observation.....

I take this for granted sometimes. I assume my family will come home around 4pm. Every will be accounted for. They will open the door, come into a warm home and within an hour or so, sit down for dinner. When I'm working in town, this is what happens as well every day....But when I'm on the road, this picture is something I should be thanking God for each and every day!

How's your prayer life?

Mine, honestly, sucks. But today reminded me instead of asking God for 'things' I should focus and be thankful for what I've been blessed with!!!

And it happens every day, which you can see in that picture.

My wife picked up the kids from school. Anything could have happened at school. With all the madness in the world, school violence is not rare, but by God's grace my kids were protected and got home safe.

They opened the door to their home. A home that a few years ago would have never been possible after our lives were turned upside down financially. They have their own room. They have toys. They have their pets (including the 90lbs Rottie that my middle kid adores). They have food in the fridge. They have clothes on their back. They have their health.

Sometimes, I don't understand how rich I truly am!

And I pray we continue to be blessed. We live a pretty simple life now. I work for my church, so I'm by no means rolling in the cash these days. But we have everything we need and so much more.

And all I honestly do need, every single day is to get that notification on my phone from the doorbell camera.

My family got home safe.

I spoke about Matthew 6:33 yesterday and today I want to fast forward to 1 Timothy chapter 6...

God reminds us! He really reminds us every day what matters most. If we are healthy and have food and clothing, we are rich. This picture today helped remind me that nothing and I mean nothing beats the simple things in life.

If you have food in your belly and clothes on your back, be thankful! And more importantly, if you have a relationship with Christ our Lord and Saviour, I consider that a double portion of blessing ;)

I think it is great how much richness can be found in simple things like family coming home safe.

Beautiful words, you don't realize all you have until you look into your children's eyes, that's something you can't miss.
