Be The Best!
I made a thread earlier today and I'm sure I've spoken about this a lot over the years. However it's something I think always needs to be mentioned because once you 'get it' it can literally change your life.
Back in the day, there was a very popular book in internet marketing circles called 'Multiple Streams of Income' and the general idea behind it was this....If you build one business, it can fail miserably. So you have to have multiple income streams coming into succeed online.
And I get it. I understand and agree in part with that idea. However I always thought this put the cart before the horse per se.
You see, my 'idea' on how to build a business online was a little different. My thought was that you should become the absolute, no hold barred, go to expert in a certain niche and build your business around that brand.
And the only way I can explain this, is to use myself as an example...
Go to Amazon.com and type in:
Hits, Clicks & Misses by Jon Olson.
This is what will pop up:
In 2007 I wrote the 'book' in my industry and niche. Back then, I wanted one thing and one thing only. To become the go to expert in my industry. When people thought of my niche, they thought Jongo.
And it worked. Not only did I write this book, but my weekly blog became the standard for news and reviews about my chosen niche. So much so that I was branded as 'The TE Guy' (the traffic exchange guy).
This post isn't meant to be some kind of bragging rights post at all, it's to show you what I did....To become the voice of one industry. I dedicated my life and career to being the best marketer and advertiser in the 'traffic exchange' world, and it kind of paid off lol
Now that being said, in 2007 traffic exchanges were quite popular, today not so much. So that's why I do believe in the multiple streams of income model. However, I believe in all my heart that you must FOCUS on one thing first, and dedicate your life to that one thing...
Spend the time, energy and resources to become the go to expert in your field, and that opens the doors for so much down the road. The multiple streams can build off that one brand, however by putting your eggs in too many baskets at once, failure is almost certain.
Think about it....Every great entrepreneur was never the jack of all trades. They mastered ONE first and then built their empire.
That's my biggest advice when it comes to building a brand or business online....For years I have been screaming from the mountain tops...
Focus!
Focus your energy on one thing. Become the go to authority on that one thing. And that separates you from your competition.
Life hack: Another reason I became successful back in the 2000's was because I stuck to it. While others came and went by the winds of change, I maintained my passion on my niche. That helped me continue to build my brand, while most of my competition simply...Gave up.

I really liked how you explained the difference between having multiple sources of income as a result of success, and not as a primary means of success.
It's amazing to see how things worked out in the past, and how you could be successful just by not giving up and learning.
Set a goal, make a plan, and stick to your guns. This should be the mantra of every entrepreneur.
You’re a strong person
I like how you never gave up and look at you today, you’re better than yesterday
