All Of It

I'm back on the road for a super quick trip in and out of Calgary, Alberta.

And I had my night all planned out too....

  • Read the bible.

  • Pray.

  • Continue my 'theology degree readings'.

  • Watch a sermon or two.

And then....Continue on our journey with the #biblejournal posts here on chain.

And it's approaching midnight here, so I thought it would be a good idea to stop being lazy and open up my notes and see what I found while diving into 1 Corinthians 6

If I thought chapter 5 was a doozy...Oh boy, did God have something waiting for me.

Reality check. And this will not be very politically correct in 2026 but alas, God's word is...His word. So let's see what verses 9 and 10 say:

These verses are thrown around quite a bit by the religious right, to show the world how holy they are and how people of the world are destined to the lake of fire.

But when I read this, I see....Pretty much everyone all the planet.

Remember, all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) so while this is a pretty detailed list of human beings that won't inherit heaven, I think we need to self check all of our own lives before casting stones at anyone.

And see, this is what Paul is doing because in chapter 5, he's telling the church to repent. Turn from sin! We have all sinned, and this is why we need a Savior.

What GOOD NEWS this is! Because when we 'try' to turn from sin, we fail. Within verse 9 I see our error right there, look what Paul writes:

"Nor idolaters..."

Guess what, when we try to STOP sinning, we start making ourselves idols. Boasters. Look at me, I'm free from sin. Look at me, I did this. Look at me, I conquered sin!!!

And guess what, when doing that, we break the law because...We are looking at ourselves to fix the sin problem. We can't do that, which brings me always back to...

That's the ONLY cure for the sin problem. Every single one of those sins laid out in 1 Corinthians 6:9,10 can be conquered through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. When we seek HIS righteousness, sin will become ugly to us. When we focus on Him and His sacrifice for our sin, all these things shall be added unto you.

The gospel is so beautiful. And while it'll take an eternity to understand the depth of God's love...It's really this simple.

Focus on Christ and what He did. Accept Him. And you will naturally turn from sin.

All of it.
