4 Reasons Why We Need To Study Scripture
I was reviewing some of the notes I've been writing down in 2025....I've spent a ton of time in my bible this year so far. So much so, that's it's taken up a lot of my free time. And it's by design. My walk with Christ has been a big focus for me personally in 2025.
And I found a unique little study I did earlier this year about....Studying :)
Fancy right? ;)
And obviously the answer to the question I ask in the title of this post...Is to grow in our knowledge and relationship with God. But there is more...So much more.
So today I thought it would be good to write down 4 reasons we need to study the bible and give you my thoughts on it. I hope it's of value for you :)
1. The Personal Relationship.
I think this goes without saying. And if we look at what Philippians 3:10 states;
"That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death."
Why did Christ die for us? What did His ministry mean to us personally? How can we have a relationship with someone if we never spend any time with them? The primary reason that we study the bible, as it's God's word is to learn about Him and develop the personal relationship we need to learn about salvation.
2. Steer Clear Of Religious Deceptions
This is a big one for me personally. I struggled a lto with 'what is truth' early in my Christian walk. So many opinions, so many denominations, so much confusion...
Oh look at that, Christ even knew this would be a thing in the future as seen in Matthew 24:5;
"For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many."
As soon as you claim Christianity, the wolves in sheeps clothing appear. And there's so many people ready to condemn your belief, it's extremely important to know that the devil is out to get you.
He doesn't care about the people in the world. Satan is content and happy to know they never pick up the bible ever. But as soon as you claim Christ, the warfare begins.
Equip yourself with a study of scripture and me personally, re-read Ephesians chapter 6 about the armor of God. You have to have the knowledge of it!
3. The Shortness of Time
Need any more evidence that we're in a very unique time in human history?
Read social media or watch the news.
Better yet, look at what the bible says about the current state of affairs:
"But this I say, brethren, the time is short..." 1 Corinthians 7:29
"Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.” - Revelation 12:12
The time, is, short! And if we are to be ready for the time of trouble that is surely coming soon, our only refuge is in Christ. And His Word is how we become prepared for the wiles of the devil.
4. To Give An Answer...
We are to be tested. We are to be condemned. But we must answer every accusation with an 'Thus Saith The Lord' or "It Is Written". Just like Christ did!
"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:" - 1 Peter 3:15
This is one of my favorite bible verses. I reminds me to KNOW what I believe from the bible and be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks. Not only for protection but also as a witnessing tool.
"But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine" - Titus 2:1
Is the result of knowing what we believe. It becomes SOUND DOCTRINE!
I hope these verses encourage you to dust off your bible and stick your nose in it. Your future self will thank you!

When we did something wrong, we say;
I went to the devil
Sadly, that's most of the world these days.
I think it is serves a a great guideline for all the actions we take in life than any other thing.
Agreed!
To Give An Answer..., this one really got me. A wonderful compilation, I appreciate your boldness to always preach Christ.
Have a wonderful week..

We are in the world filled with sins so studying the scriptures will guide your daily activities and lifestyle

4 great reasons out of an infinite amount! the shift for me was realizing that there is NOTHING life can throw our way that the answer isnt in the Book.
Yeah 4 reasons is very limited for sure!
that’s a solid base though. Gives a lot to build on
Studying and knowing the scriptures for your self gives you clearer understanding of who God is to you.
