People usually add the leaves to salads, flowers are used to make dandelion wine, and even the roots are edible. Just don't harvest them too late or they get bitter, and don't eat them from places which may have been exposed to herbicide.

Pardon me if this is a novice question, but do you boil the roots in the kettle or just steep them in hot water like tea until they release their nutrients?

To make dandelion root tea, wash and chop dandelion roots, then roast them in the oven for about 10-15 minutes until they are dark brown. Add 1-2 tablespoons of the roasted roots to hot water and simmer for 5-10 minutes. Strain the roots from the liquid and enjoy your tea, adding honey or another sweetener if desired to reduce any bitterness.
