[Investment] Delegate or Hold

A couple of days ago, I bought 800 Hives for cash and powered them up immediately. Now I have another dilemma about it. And I would like to share my concerns and learn your opinion.

So, I can't decide whether I should keep my 800 Hives as my Hive power balance or delegate them?

Thoughts about delegating

Currently, I have 9,629 HP delegated to different people and communities, and it is almost 88% of the whole HP I have now. The main reason why I started delegating HP to others is that I wanted to support them. Especially, communities. The second reason is that delegating is a pretty good way of generating passive income.

For example, I have 2,118 HP delegated to @ecency, and every day I get payouts of around 0.508 HIVE and 211 Ecency points. So, for each 100 HP delegated to @ecency, I get around 0.023 Hive, and if I delegate 800 HP more, I will be supposed to get 0.184 Hives more every day. And I will get back my invested 800 HIVEs in around 4,347 days or almost 12 years :)

Maybe, delegating to other communities has a higher APR. If so, please share it in the comments.

Curation

I am not sure about curation payouts. But it says that APR interest rate for Hive Power is 2.979%. I am not strong in those types of calculations, so I asked ChatGPT:

If the APR interest rate for Hive Power is 2.979% and I have 800 Hive Power, how long will it take to earn 800 Hive Power more?

And the answer I got is:

To estimate how long it would take to double your Hive Power from 800 HP to 1600 HP with an APR of 2.979%, we can use the formula for compound interest, assuming the rewards are compounded (i.e., reinvested)
It will take approximately 23.3 years to earn another 800 Hive Power (doubling your current 800 HP) at an APR of 2.979% with daily compounding.

Summary

Based on the calculations above, delegating has a better APR. But I am not sure if my calculations are right.
Also, I don't consider investing in other projects and buying other tokens, because I have already staked all my liquid hives.
However, I am always curious about different investment options and projects. So, feel free to share it with me. I will really appreciate it.

Delegating is a nice way to support communities and get a little bit of income. The 2.979% interest on HP is what you get by just leaving it sitting there unused.

But assuming that (like me) you're not a super coder who can get projects approved and paid by the DHF or run a witness node, then for ordinary non-techie Hivers the best earnings are (in order);

  1. Interest on HBD
  2. Author rewards - variable, and can depend on the quality of posts, where you're posting, how many followers you've got etc.
  3. Curation - i.e. upvoting posts.

Curation has additional benefits because it can help build your own follower base. If I see someone regularly upvoting my posts, I'll go off and look at what they're writing. If I like it, I'll follow them and start upvoting their posts in return.

I do most of my curation manually, but it's also possible to automate the process through tools like Hive.vote. You can also monitor your curation APR (and lots of other data) through Hivestats.io. My current curation APR is 5.25%, but that's down from a normal 8-9% because real life has kept me busy for the last couple of weeks and my upvoting has slipped a little !

You're never going to be a millionaire purely from curation, but it's earned me around 1300HP so far, as well as finding me some great new friends 😀

I'm also doing some automatic curation right now. However, I may need to review it because I set it up a long time ago.

7 days. Since that is the time it takes for pur votes with your Delegation to be paid out by Hive.
After that you receive it kn a daily basis.
