Social media: a double-edged sword for mental health

In this digital world, we have an advanced communication system that is very fast and secure. Thanks to advanced technology for making it possible for us and making many things easier for us. Social media is a part of advanced technology that plays a very important role in the communication system, but it is not limited to communication. It's more than that, and it became a way to share the thoughts of us. In this digital world, we don't think about life without social media because we are very much connected with it, and many of us are highly dependent on it.

Social media is a good thing, and it was invented for a good purpose, but everything comes into this world in pairs, and in the case of social media, it's not different either. There are many advantages and disadvantages of social media, and it has the power to influence others, especially the young generation. The influence and the power of social media are not things to take lightly because if we take them lightly, it can be enough to bring destruction. Using social media, we can make money, and it can be helpful in study, but at the same time, it can be a way to waste our most precious time. But today I am not going to discuss it because I decided to keep it within the impact and influence on mental health, especially in the case of adolescents.

It's good to start something positive. Social media is one of the best ways for recreation, which can be very good for mental health. We can watch movies, dramas, anime, or anything else we want to see that is available on social media. Those are the things for entertainment purposes, and they can help to keep our mood positive. Even if we are not in a good mood, we can watch movies, dramas, or anime based on our choice to lighten our mood. If we are stressed, it helps to reduce our stress. If our mood is bad and we can't concentrate on our activities, those things divert our minds or keep us busy, which don't allow us to be sad for a long time. Boredom can be a reason for depression, and social media is very effective in overcoming boredom. If we feel bored, we can watch dramas, movies, and anime. Again, we have the option to communicate with other people and discuss or share anything with them. In social media we can connect with the vast world, and finding some people to share our thoughts with is not so difficult. We can share our issues even without revealing our identity and get some suggestions or solutions from others. It can be a great help to protect us from mental issues and keep us mentally fit.

Let's talk about what the disadvantages are. Social media is like a double-edged sword. It can help us in various ways when it comes to mental health, but at the same time, it can do the opposite depending on our decisions and actions. Most of us spend too much time on social media, and that means we are wasting our most precious time, which should be used to do other tasks. There are some tasks that should be done in any case, and for those tasks, we need to take stress while we need to complete them within a short time. Study, and we can have the best example of it. Many students waste their precious time on social media, ignoring their responsibility of studying, and before the exam time, they feel stressed. They can't achieve good results on exams, and sometimes the societal pressure and other pressures become so much that they choose to commit suicide. We need to be careful about not to waste our time.

Social media is very addictive, and nobody wants to leave social media and try to stay active as long as they can. That is the reason most of us remain active on social media till late at night. It is directly affecting our sleeping time, and without proper sleep, our mental health receives the maximum damage. In social media we can see the lifestyle of others, and most of the time people show a fake and luxurious lifestyle, which can make anyone feel low. Some people even feel jealous because of it. Such a kind of thing can affect our mental health easily.

I don't blame social media for it because we are the ones who are controlling social media, and it's our decision how we are going to use it. So it depends on us if we are going to take advantage of it or if we are going to take the backlash of it.

You have simply stated a great truth social media can be both beneficial and detrimental to our mental health. I like that you have responsibly highlighted both sides. We will decide for ourselves whether technology will benefit us or harm us. Great presentation!

Everything has it's own advantages and disadvantages, and I just represented it based on my observation. But it depends on us how to use it. If we use it properly, we will get benifited from it.

Social media made communication really easy, you can chat with friends and family living miles away, you can call them both audio call and video call to see how they are doing.

That's the beauty of social media and that's why we can't think about life without it. But at the same time we need to be careful for not to be influenced by negative things.

Social media is very addictive...from one click to another and before u know it, we have spent hours doing nothing but wasting our time and losing productivity . Why won't it affect the mental health ?

Everything should have limit

Our usage matters

It's all in our hands

The disadvantages aspect of social media have a negative impact on adolescents' mental health, and what matters is trying to limit how much they spend scrolling endlessly on it and then wasting their precious time.

That's right. We are the decider what to do with social media and we can't blame social media as it is controlled by us.

I also do not blame social media for all the problems too, we are the ones using it wrong. It should be a source of positive motivation but the negative keeps expanding.

Hmm. We are the controller and so we have no reason to blame.
