An evil side technology

We are living in a digital world, and from time to time, many things related to technology are invented, and it is kind of non-stop. Some technologies were developed for entertainment, while others were created for specific purposes. Deepfake is also a technology that may have been invented for entertainment as well as fun purposes. Because of deep-fake technology, it’s possible to create images or videos of anyone else with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI). From a general perspective, it’s not a big issue, but I think we are already experiencing several things that are enough to say people are misusing it.

It says that every invention has its own advantages and disadvantages, and in the case of deepfake technology, it’s no different. Let me share a few advantages of it. Using technology, we can make content by giving the face of anyone it doesn’t matter whether the person is alive or dead. That can be a way to keep some people, mostly actors and actresses, alive in a virtual world even after death. Again, some characters match suitable situations. Even if the person is not available there, using the technology, we can show the existence of the specific person, which can make the thing interesting. There can be many other benefits of it, but at least I haven’t seen people taking those advantages, and so I am not discussing those.

I think in case of misusing the deep-fake technology, there are lots of examples, and it’s something that makes me worried about. Because of the help of AI technology, deep-fake technology has reached different levels. In earlier days, it could be understood if any image or video was edited or fake, but at the present time, AI helps to generate such an image and video that seems very real and enough to convince anyone. Sometimes I feel AI-generated images or videos seem more realistic than real images or videos. Just imagine how powerful a tool it has become.

As a result, various kinds of scandals of celebrities come on a regular basis. Some people do so because they want to use it to become popular, and some people do it because they try to tarnish the reputation of celebrities. Let’s talk about the general people. We are indeed in a digital world, and we have many advanced technologies right now, but still, most of the people, especially the elderly, are not well aware of it. It’s hard for them not to trust when they see any video or images as proof. Just imagine someone making a video of you committing a crime with the help of AI and sharing the video online, and there is a possibility to get it going viral.

Social media doesn’t need anything more to judge you. People will think you are a criminal and have done wrong things. But in reality, you were innocent, and you became the victim. Such a thing can go to the extreme that the victim chooses to do suicide in several cases. Except for the fun purpose, I don’t see any use case of deep-fake technology. In fact, there is a lot of proof of misusing technology and harming others. I believe that it would be better if there were no such technology.
