Splinterlands Social Media Challenge - Mission 12.3 — Gertrude Chompsbury

The Splinterlands Campaign Mode started back in June also introduced the Foundations Set in Book 1. It's a good way of onboarding and rewarding new Splinterlands players. It's a player versus environment (PvE) mode of play with a story. Being more interactive, it's more engaging as a teaching tool for new Splinterlands summoners to learn the basics of the game and at the same time, learn the lore.

Book 1 (WAUR MEDGE ACADEMY) has seventeen chapters. Completing each chapter rewards the player with new cards that can be used in the game while learning battle mechanics of the game. I played Splinterlands for a long time but when I played the Campaign, I found it an engaging experience. The story is immersive like a pc role playing game and the chapters become more difficult as I progress.

The reward cards (Foundation Set) are good on their own and can be used in battles against other players. These cards are soulbound, meaning they cannot be traded, sold, burned. Despite these limitations, they are playable in most game formats except Survival Mode and more importantly, can still generate Glint and SPS. Of course, a new player will not be happy with just this set and will buy cards for a stronger deck. This makes the Campaign mode a great way to onboard new players. They are given strong playable cards that earns SPS but will encourage players to expand their deck.

The Campaign Mode will be better in upcoming updates. Foundations cards may become tradeable and sellable. Booster packs tied to the set are expected to be released, and players will gain the ability to combine these cards to level them up. There will be expanded chapters, achievements, and replayable objectives that could increase both the challenge and the replay value of the Campaign.

I already completed the campaign mode and using all the cards in battle. I was surprised by the last two chapters which were difficult. I'm an experienced Splinterlands player but I had to redo those two chapters multiple times before I beat them.

CH. 12.3 — Gertrude Chompsbury

Chapter 12.3 has a juicy legendary card reward. After losing multiple times I thought it was a joke since I couldn't beat it and the boss was Troll. I thought it was a joke from the developers putting a troll boss to troll players.

The boss was crazy strong with 8 attack and 55 lives. I thought there was no way for beginners to beat this boss. This has to be a joke. I was a bit irritated that the developers would put a legendary card reward for an unbeatable mission.

After several tries, I read the mission objectives carefully. There I found a clue to properly beat the boss.

So, I need the fastest card I have in the frontline. Also, this means that I need to use the Fire archon who buffs the team with +1 speed. Checking my Fire cards, I found the best card to use in the frontline.

Scales of Justice has no attack but it is the fastest Fire card with four speed. It also has the Dodge skill (25% chance to evade physical attacks). It's the perfect card to use in this mission. For the mission, here is the line up that I used.

Chaos Furybringer is a common fire card with 2 melee attack. He has the Reach skill. He is also fast with 3 speed.

Vengeful Monk is a neutral card with 2 melee attack. He has Opportunity skill.

Lunaki Howler is a neutral epic card with one magic attack.

Ash Archer is a fire card with 2 archer attack.

Sturdy Axe Warden another fire card with 2 archer attack. It's similar to Ash Archer but this is a common and Ash Archer is epic card.

The strategy for this mission is for the frontline to dodge the troll boss while the other units are attacking. The strategy worked but poor Gertrude suffered an unfortunate end. I got the reward card which is needed in the next mission.

Watch out for my next post, another difficult mission: CH. 12.4 — Thayko Gol’eavas

It's funny, I invested in, and leveraged Splinterlands assets for a long time now, but I've still so far never even played it, though I have thought about it quite a lot. The Campaign seems like a good lead-in to learning and getting familiar with how to play. I wish you invincible success with the next level! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

Sure thing, you're most welcome. OK, Iike that. Does it require purchasing the summoners spellbook? I haven't done that yet. 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

You can play for free without Summoners Spellbook but you won't be able to earn SPS.
