Hello, my friends.

If I had to compare my life to a Netflix movie, it would be something very similar to Orange is a New Black.

And no: I haven't been in prison or anything like that. But it turns out I moved years ago to this neighborhood where I live now. And it's a slum, one of the bad ones in my town.
It would be the equivalent of prison in the Netflix series.
Like Piper, I was very naive. I swear, at first I didn't even go out so I wouldn't run into the neighbors. I didn't know how they would react to me, and worse yet, how I would react to them.
But I had to do it.
A young girl from a residential neighborhood, recently arrived in the worst neighborhood in another municipality, where no one knew me.

Luckily, they knew my husband. Thanks to him, I was able to adapt to the new environment and to the unwritten rules of that society.
Over time, I learned to behave like one of them. I integrated myself into that marginalized society and began to play by its rules.
My greatest strength came from my children, as I had to adapt and fight for them.

Of course, just like in the series, I had my fights and arguments with several of the women in the area. Especially since I had just moved.
Some tried to pull a fast one and scam me. But they couldn't. My husband warned me.

By studying and having the opportunity to appear on television and become a public figure, I achieved a certain status in my neighborhood, and they began to respect me. I became a sort of leader in the area.
I don't know why, but yes, my life, if it were a Netflix series, would be Orange Is a New Black. I still remember going to bed scared the first few days.
Not anymore. I'm just one of them, and in a way, I've become the Piper of the group.

Hola, amigas mías.

Si tuviera que comparar mi vida con una película de Netflix sería algo muy parecido a Orange is a new Black.

Y no: no he estado presa, ni nada parecido. Pero sucede que, me mudé hace años a este barrio donde vivo ahora. Y es un barrio marginal, de los malos de mi municipio.
Sería el equivalente de la prisión en la serie de Netflix.
Yo, al igual que Piper, era muy inocente. Les juro que al principio ni siquiera salía a la calle por tal de no cruzarme con los vecinos del barrio. No sabía cómo iban a reaccionar conmigo y peor aún, cómo reaccionaría yo con ellos.
Pero tuve que hacerlo.
Una muchacha joven de un barrió residencial, acabada de llegar al peor de los barrios de otro municipio, donde nadie me conocía.

Por suerte conocían a mi esposo. Gracias a él pude adaptarme al nuevo ambiente. A las reglas no escritas de esa sociedad.
Con el tiempo logré aprender a comportarme como una más. Me integré a esa sociedad marginal y comencé a jugar con sus leyes.
La principal fuerza me la dieron mis hijos, ya que tenía que adaptarme y luchar por ellos.

Por supuesto, al igual que en la serie, tuve mis peleas y discusiones con varias de las mujeres de la zona. Sobre todo cuando recién me había acabado de mudar.
Algunas intentaron probar fuerza y estafarme. Pero no pudieron. Estaba alertada por mi esposo.

Al haber estudiado y tener la posibilidad de salir por televisión y convertirme en una figura pública, logré cierto estatus en mi barrio y comenzaron a respetarme. Me volví una especie de lideresa en la zona.
No sé por qué pero sí, mi vida, si fuera una serie de Netflix, fuera Orange is a new black. Aún recuerdo que me acostaba con miedo los primeros días.
Ya no. Ya soy una más y en cierto modo, me he vuelto la Piper del grupo.
