I am not sure regulations will stop AI layoffs in any serious way over the long term.
I also think AI was an excuse in this case to trim headcount without creating the optics that Block is not growing.
When tech companies reduce headcount sometimes the "market" takes this as signal the company is not growing.

They will not stop all layoffs for sure but maybe workers might have some more protection... Like here last week a company US based fired all 40 employed night to day, and no one could do anything as the law is flawed and lacks Ai regulation...
I wonder how many AI excuses we will see in the upcoming weeks
