Whenever I interact with my colleagues from the R&D department, they always give me a sense that they are just throwing some coins into a slot machine and hoping that they strike jackpot. Now sure how things evolved to such means because to me, research needs good conjecture and understanding. Nowadays, these colleagues of mine just throw everything, evaluating one chemical after another without truly understanding how each chemical would help with the process and hoping that this new chemical that they select can help to solve the yield problem.

And this is how our product timeline keep slowing down, the quality of our research came down to just odds of striking jackpot. Loads of money had been invested without proper assessment, loads of wastage from failed experiments, loads of manhours wasted as well to execute these. If we ever need to progress in our research and be back at the pole position of leading technologies, these jackpot runners need to go and be replaced with people whom have the calibre of developing breakthrough technologies.
